I have a VW Polo 1.2 (02 Reg) and after my Emissions warning light came on I though i would have a quick look in the engine to see if anything obvious was wrong. I have found that there is a hose which is only connected at one end (going into the battery casing). I can't see any obvious place for the other end to connect to. Where does this hose connect and could this be what is causing the emission light to come on?

YOU COULD TRY SOME FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER TO CLEAN ALL THE CARBON DEPOSITS OR U MAY NEED TO REPLACE LAMBADA SENSOR OR YOUR CATALYST
SOURCE: 1992 VW Polo 1.3L Coupe: warning light mystery
Polo Coupe 1043,1992, Will not start, can be bumped started, sometimes!!, theres a strange clicking noise from under the air box, when the ignition is on and sometimes the oil pressure light comes on when the car gets upto temperature, then I lose all power and then the engine cuts out. I've recently changed the dizzy cap, rotor arm and battery, all the leads are new ish along with the spark plugs. The previous owner has changed the head and done all that, leaving much of the engine loom unlagged and bare. Could this cause a problem on some of the electrical systems?
SOURCE: ABS warning light just came on my VW Polo 54 Reg,
As far as your normal braking, no, you should not be worried as it will still work. However your ABS may not be functional. I suggest you seek out a professional to find out what is wrong with the ABS.
SOURCE: "emissions garage" warning light
this could be due to a large variety of possible different faults, the only way to tell is to take to a garage for it to be plugged in to a diagnostic code reader. Not always serious, somtimes as simple as an engine coolant temperature sensor fault, cheap to buy and quick to replace.
