If I make several stops car turned off and on I cannot start sometimes i changed new starter same problem

  • Anonymous Oct 18, 2012

    This started in the summer so I supposed it was the starter after getting hot, so I changed the starter and a few days later it was in the 40's drove it and the same problem occured, now I did replace starter & solenoid with a used starter tested before replaced all signed showed good. Where do I need to troubleshoot, could this be a solenoid problem

It's not real clear, when the car does not start, 1)the engine does not turn over at all, or 2) slow, or 3)turns normally but just does not start? If 1, verfiy starter enable switch connected to clutch in 5 speed or brkae in automatic. If 2) sometimes trunk light stays on even when closed, check by lowering back seat with top up to make sure light is off. If 3) then could be igniter in distributer.

My gl450 sometimes does not start when the

Starters have a problem in the communicator bars on the armature. These bars are what the brushes run on and if there is a dry joint in one of the bars where it connects to the copper bars and the brush is sitting on this bar then all you will get is a click from the starter as there is no complete circuit. After several attempts it may start as each attempt rotates the armature until the brush is touching a good bar and it spins. The fault appears random as it depends on where the armature stops spinning. I suggest that you visit an accredited auto electrician , have the starter pulled and bench tested

How do i know if my starter is going bad?

IT will just click. do nothing. or turn very slowly on a fully charged battery. Most people change a starter when it is nothing more than a bad battery ( have a load test done first) or a faulty starter solenoid ( replaceable and repairable). Sometimes it will do nothing until you try the start position several times and then suddenly it is ok and will be so for days then it is back to the problem. This indicates a dry joint in the armature that stops under a brush and there is no circuit to turn the armature . This is repairable with a new armature or a new starter.

1997 camry. After numerous attempts to turn the ignition key to start the car, it will start normally. Was told that the starter may have a dead spot on it.....change it. It does grunt several times before...

did you use a new starter or a used one,if it was a used one it or the solenoid may have a problem if its a new one it still could be a bad new starter or solenoid(it happens).you may have a dirty ground where the starter bolts to the motor that the surface may need to be cleaned,or it may be dirty wire connections at the starter solenoid or connections not tight(?).i assume when you had the battery tested at the shop you didn`t have them perform a starter test.some times it can take several attempts to catch the starter acting up.

How do I change the starter on a 99 avalon

Could be your starter, sounds like your starter soloinoid(pulls starter gear into flywheel) might be defective. First it will not pull gear in, then if it sticks in your car could keep starting even if the key was turned off .
without looking at the car I could'nt say how hard it would be to change. It has been my observation that newer cars are much more difficult to change

Intermittent starter problem, sometimes turns, sometimes not. changed battery, tested bad, starter worked twice, stopped turning. changed starter, still wont turn.

Many European cars have relays that trigger the starter,maybe yours is bad? New battery and new starter? Need to check battery connections to vehicle especially ground wire to engine block. Starter face and flywheel housing have to be clean for good ground connection.
When it won't start do you try key numerous times? Sometimes (rarely) bad keyswitch.

Hyundai tucson turns over initially and cranks. after making several stops it takes longer and longer to turn over. already changed the battery but still doing it. doesn't make a dead battery sound. sounds...

sometimes the selenoid when going out will do that, work right away then not catch for several trys, you might take it in to be tested or just replace it most are not very expensive unless it is directly on the starter then you have to replace starter to get new selenoid

Starter stays enguaged

Hello;
The problem you are encountering is the starter it self. Sometimes the starter will hang up due to age, corrosion, etc. The solenoid you replaced was new? I had the same problem with my 66 Mustang and whacked the starter to clear it up and has been working great since. Hope this helps;
Thanks and rate me high;

1999 Toyota Corolla CE. For about 2 months, the engine does not start immediately. I need to turn the ignition key several times until it starts. Each time when I turn the key, a clicking sound happens...

it sounds like either your having a short at the starter or the ignition switch is bad, I am leaning towards the issue being the starter, usually when the ignition switch is going bad there will be no click,
