SOURCE: 97 kia sephia smokes when first starts, smells

Black smoke is fuel.
Blue is oil.
White is coolant / water.

Fuel is caused by timing and cold start system and requires some discussion to clarify.

Oil burning only on start is caused by failing rings on your cylinders. Oil then enters the combustion chambers and burns when you start the engine. If it continues to burn when running in particular when you accelerate it will also indicate ring/cylinder failure. It can also be from a failing head gasket where oil travels from the lubrication system into the combustion chamber. Some of the anti smoke additives available at the auto supply store do help.

I doubt you are seeing white as you say is smells like exhaust. White is coolant in the combustion chamber or exhaust system.

Hope this helps you.

A sign that you need new rings since excessive loss of oil and white smoke means oil is going to the combution chamber of the engine and bad rings are letting that happen. take it to a technician to make sure you get it right. Thank you for visiting Fixya.

Kia pregio late start in cold mornings with white smoke

White smoke means antifreeze gets into the combustion chamber and when you start vehicle it burns off. Check oil cap for a foamy residue you could have a blown head gasket or cracked block.

There is either A).an oil leak or B). the smoke is from residue oil spilled on exhaust and such during the repair. Crank the engine and look everywhere for an evident oil leak if one is not found leave it run till it gets hot enough to show where the white smoke is coming from and see then if it is residue or a new leak. White smoke coming out of the exhaust when starting?

Hello;
Volumes of white smoke is an indication of water in the exhaust. A certain amount of vapor will be present on start up, but if it is different than what has been the norm for this vehicle then a check of the cooling system is in order.
