Check transmission fluid level, could be very low transmission slipping not going into over drive.if been long time change transmission fluid and filter.if transmission fluid filter already been changed other problems cause transmission not to shift could have worn broken need adjusting.governor valve sticking, governor drive gear worn, governor weights or springs missing or damaged. you could have sticking first and second shift valves.your first and second servos pistons seals stuck or damaged. do fluid change and add some high mileage transmission treatment go to any auto parts stores find transmission additive that will loosen up transmission sticking shift valves in the valve body. if your check engine light is on have vechicle code scan for faulty tps in which will cause transmission not to shift over drive.

Try disconnecting the Negative battery cable for 30 minutes, then reconnect. It may help to reboot the system to recognize the new part.

The O2 sensor should not have that extreme of an effect on the transmission. Even a limp home mode would allow some of the gears to work

When you went under the vehicle to work on it, did you set the Parking Brake? Chances are that if you did, it may not have released and is dragging.

1999 chevy suburban k1500 4wd eletrical problems?

As far as the speedometer not working and the transmission not shifting; I'd check the speed sensor connection on the tail of the transmission and follow the wiring to see if it is cut somewhere. If the PCM doesn't get a signal from the speed sensor, the transmission won't shift. Did the auto have wires get chewed by rats after sitting?

1996 GMC suburban wont upshift.

when u changed the fluid was it dark /brownish and smelt burnt and was their filings or shavings on the magnet in pan if so more than likely your transmission may be fried---a bad vacuum that would cause shifting problems would also cause the truck to run rough and or stall

My speedometre stoped working in my suburban 2001, everything else works fine

01 Suburban has an electronic speedo which works by way of a speed sending unit on the tail end of the driver's side of the transmission. Replace that speed sending unit if there is any transmission fluid coming out of the plug entrance (where the wires plug into the sensor). Could also be a speed sensor mounted on the top of the differential, but less likely. Do get it fixed because either one of these could cause shifting problems in the transmission... Ugly.

I have a 93 Chevy Suburban 1500 and the Transmission won't shift into any gear. I have an 1983 Chevy Suburban Transmission that is still good. Can I use the 83 Transmission in my 93 Suburban?

Not without a little adapting. The 1993 has a 4l60e which is electronically controlled and has shift solenoids. If the 83 is an overdrive it is a 700r4 which is the same trans but not electronic. If you put it in the speedo wont work and you will need to install a T.V. cable so the transmission will shift. The 93 won't go forward or backwards?
