My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee has an electical issue. The interior lights will stay on. Now power door locks and windows do not work. Is the problem in wiring? A door switch?
Common issue with the early 2000 series Jeep is the window/door lock control on driver side goes dead when the thick guage wires in door become brittle and break from continually opening and closing the door. Had both the ground and hot wires break over the years and both are fixed by making a simple jumper connection with a little extra length added.
Fixing is relativly easy if you know how to crimp wire connectors otherwise you my want someone more experience to help.
Open door, pull back rubber sheath and expose wire harness, unclip the plastic retaining clip and pull out wire harness and located which wire has broken (typically the thick black or orange wire) . Prepare both ends for crimp connector and make a jumper with small peice of heavy guage wire and crimp connector of either end then connect each end to either side of broken wire, tuck wires back in, replace retaining clip and rubber sheath.
You can find videos on youtube showing how to fix
Well everything was working fine til I went to go get gas for my 2004 jeep Grand Cherokee, and after I paid for the gas I cranked up my Jeep and noticed the interior lights stayed on and my dash lights turned on as well normally my dash lights turn on when I turn on all my parking and headlights and also discovered that my power windows don't roll up nomore but my power locks do still work, my gf's ex says it may be a fuse or relays, and so did all his car club friends did say it aswell, so do I need to check all my fuses and relays 1st, before ruling those out to be something more different? it does crank up and I have nothing else going wacko on my jeep except for what I described, please let me know if my gf's ex and his car club buddies correct so I can say thanks and im sry for yelling at my gf cause I was venting out and end up yelling at her
As it was mentioned before, open the drivers door and move the boot covering the wiring bundle out of the way. Then check the black wire and the white w/red stripe wire. On my 2002 GC, these wires were boken. Put a **** connector on them, and everything is working as it should. I got this solution from an earlier post from 2009 by Elliot York.
$400 later from the deget it fixed everything working now, except for my dash lights for my a/c contros and gear selector, bfore i went to dealer my mechanics heer said he checked all the ares and didnt find anything and my mechanic apologized to me and said that he should have done it himself but at the time he was busy on another vehicle
i just posted a different problem for my GF's 1996 jeep grand cheroee laredo, all dash lights r not working and the interior lights flicker while driving and then stay on now too til we stop and turn off her jeep, i took dash apart to changed all bubs out even if they didnt need to be change, and so now only get 2 instrument cluster lights turn on which are the fuel and battry gages, but the rpm, speedo, water temp, and oil area still not lit, and this was after i hit the top of dash like the fonze...lol and as for all the rest of dash lights for the a/c controls around headlight switch etc... they turn on now as well but still no lighting for the gear selector too, so im thinking bout taking everything off again since i found my electrical connector spray cleaner, and also going to use a pencil eraser to use on al metal to metal contacts, for the dash light plugs, also see about checking all door swtches for the lights as to check and clean them

In addition to the symptoms already mentioned - my warning bell starts to ring as soon as I turn the ignition key on. Or, turn the key to ACCessory.
I found the broken black wire in the rubber boot. Repaired it and all works great. Thanks...Great Help.
