Replacing a 4L60E with a 700R4?

I have a 94 Chevrolet 1500 (4X4 with a 5.7 liter) pickup with the 4L60E tranny. Can I remove the 4L60E and replace it with a 700R4 (and obviously not utilize the computer). If so, will this ''mess'' with the ecm?

Not with good results, the 4L60E is run by your ecm, the 700R4 while looking close to the same does not relie on your ecm for commands,it relies on a cable to regulate your line pressure.

Why won't it shift into 3rd or 4th?

It doesn't sound right, the majority of the Chevrolets from the smaller jimmy to the full size pickups had 4L60E transmissions in them. Reverse works fine as well? Could possibly be a shift solenoid.

Wiring 99 4l60e 4x4 tranny from suburban to 98 pickup problem

Hi Jesse, You need to get the correct management system and probably the wiring harness to go with it. It will also require someone conversant with electronics and who knows the circuit of the vehicles concerned. Regards John

Will 400 transmission fit my 1994 c1500 pickup with overdrive

no. in the late 80's chevy switched to a electronic automatic tranny called the 4L60E, that is the tranny you should be looking for. the only bad part, its more expensive.

4.3 liter, Rocker nuts back off at idle

I would try using some Loctite Threadlocker, they offer different strengths, removable and non-removable.

93 chevy 4x4 with a 4l60e tranny. will a 98 tranny swap?

Nothing after 1995, because from 1996 on the transmissions are for OBD II. Your truck has OBD I.

Swapped tranny, just need help with matching up wiring

It won't work. The shifting of the 4L60E is done by the computer in the 93. You might check with Summit or Jegs, I think they make a system to make it work.

I just installed a used 4l60e in my '97 Tahoe. On test drive, it shifts from 1 to 2, then about 1/2 way to 3, it downshifts back to 1. Any ideas about the problem?

how many miles on the tranny your put in? those don't last any more then about 120-140. the sunshell breaks, you should replace it with "the beast"

all shifting is in the valve body, you don't need to remove the tranny again. If your going to open her up and start wrenching, get a video/book on the 4L60E, you will start with check electrical components

4L60E slipping and not locking up

Very well could be taht the Computer is not recieving the Shift codes Correctly. Just for an Easy Solution, Remove the ECM Fuse from the Fuse panel for 2 or 3 Minutes to Reset the Computer and let me know what you get.
