1993 lumina i did a diagnostic test with the paper clip. the cooling fan turned on as soon as i put the clip in....normal? the fan wouldn't come on when the engine was hot and when i did the test it was cold! anyway... i got a code 33 & 35. any ideas?

code 33 is for a MAP sensor issue , too high voltage in a given time

code 35 is for a IAC circuit issue , this will set when idle speeds are at least 150 rpm's away from target speed for 20 seconds or more ,

fan coming on when in diagnostic loop , sure .

what was the specific issue with the vehicle ?

If the fan is not working it is most likley a bad tempature sensor that controlls the fan going on and off at certen temps.

Cooling fan stays on when car is running

It is normal for the cooling fan to remain on when the air conditioning is on. Turn the air conditioning system off and see if the fan continues. If so, check the fan relay.

Radiater cooling fan not working

Could be the temp sensor on the radiator or the fan relay. I wouldn't drive it to avoid overheating & damaging the engine.

Bring the vehicle into a repair shop the technician has to duplicate the situation before he /she can conduct testing. I don't think your cooling fan is the problem . I'm leaning towards engine main relay.(located under the dash board) contacts getting hot and once you turn off car there is no ventilization inside the vehicle ( a/c air blowing on relay) to cool it down. The only
draft is coming from cooling fan to cool off its contacts. Pretty soon you'll have longer wait periods before you can start the vehicle . Unless you live in the Artics.lol

2 fans right behind radiator don.t rotate, what's wrong and how to fix ?

those fans can cost allot of money unless you get it used or off ebay or junkyard, I would first check the fuse and the cooling fan relay making sure its not faulty next also replace your temperature sensor, what it does it sense the temperature of your coolant in the engine and when it reach certain tempature it send information to the computer telling it to turn on the fan to cool down the engine down. its fairly cheap and it take 2 minute to replace; if the sensor is faulty the fan will not turn on automatically. next if you did everything and the fan still does not work You can pull the fan out and test it buy direct contact using some spare wire wires and touch it straight to the battery to the fans plug. it hard to believe both fans fail at the same time. keep in mind both fan work in sync, although the 2nd fan is only a back up help to cool the engine while AC is running.

Radiator Cooling fans pull or push air (93 Chevy Lumina 3.1 L) ?

A radiator fan is designed to pull air to pull air through the radiator to help cool it, while blowing the air on back across the engine to try to assist once again at keeping the unit running cool as to not over heat.

Running hot

run hot even at highway speed? no leaks, or sweet smell? ever have to top off coolant? ever boils out of system? if no to all these, sounds like your cooling fans aren't working. there is a fuse either on the motor cradle or on the passanger side wheel well. start the car, let it warm up, and check for power to the cooling fans.
