My 93 mustang 4cyl automatic hatchback broke down on me the other day. Both the belts had fallen off, but they wernt broken so I put them back on. The car still idles rough (rpms dive down below 1,000 and it often cuts out). If I steadily hold gas down the rpms go up and it revs like normal but if I push harder on the gas it completly dies out. I can move it but I have to let it roll or it will cut out before it moves even an inch. I also noticed I am getting extremely poor gas mileage. I replaced the fuel filter and it still does the same thing. I noticed that when it is running the radiator fan does not spin( i dont know it its just not hot enough for it to start spinning or what). what could cause this all to happen?
One ting comes to mind with your description. The throttle position sensor. They are NOT waterproof and if it got wet, it is shot.
would that cause the engine to produce a little white smoke on the passenger side of the engine. I didnt notice it before but I did this morning
If it was a cold morning, the white smoke would actually be water vapor (steam) from the exhaust.. Also, when is the last time the oxygen sensor was changed?

SOURCE: whenI push the gas pedal
The first thing I would check is the engine coolant temperture sensor. Check for codes. Check the air and fuel filters. All of these will cause your symptoms. Let me know and we can go from there

More likely electrical and not the fuel, hv yr electrics chkd. Could be air getting into the fuel line rechk the joins and line for leaks. cheers

I dont think its the idle air control. i will try it tho.. but what gets me is the belts falling off right as this happened.
