Engine turns over but does not start

My 2003 golf 1.6 SE will not start. it was ok the last time i used it, two days ago. The engine turns over but does not fire. I suspect either lack of fuel or no spark. How is the cover over the engine fixed on ( the one with Golf on it) i want to remove a plug to see if i have a spark.

SOURCE: 2003 VW Golf won't start - battery was charged

You need to charge your battery up more. Either get a battery charger or leave the jumper cables hooked up for a longer period of time.
Your battery was probably completely dead. You might even need a new battery...they really don't like to be completely drained.

SOURCE: Driver side headlight bulbs burned out on 2003 VW Golf

There is a light cover in front of the battery... take this off and then look for the metal clamps holding the light housing in.  (I say clamps, but they're more like glorified paper clips on either side of the fixture.)  Press in on each side, pushing the clamps towards each other and pull the fixture out.

Is the cooling fan coming on and working? If not the fuse, or relay may be bad. Did you bleed all air from the system after the service, and did you replace the thermostat? If the thermostat was not replaced then replace it. If all this checks ok, then either the water pump has failed or the interior or exterior of the radiator is clogged. Use only G12 coolant in your VW.

My 2003 vw golf comfortline 1.4 petrol sounds like a diesel when started and driven oil level checked and ok

Sounds like an hydralic tappet is failing, try not to do many miles, get someone with experience to have a listen as soon as you can the last thing you need is for it to do real damage and leave you stranded.

Fingers crossed it will be a small issue.

VW's are VERY strong engines :o)

Oil light flashing, last oil change 7 wks ago

I belive they didn't reset the oil light timer. I belive the sequence is 1. key on (not acc with engine off)
2. step on the brake pedal 5 times within 10 seconds. 3. key off. 4. start car. 5. check if the light went out. you may have to try it a few times to get it.

Car start but does not take

Hi,

Two possibilities:
1. air bubbles along the fuel line or in the injector/pump;
2. clogged fuel filter/line.

Possibility #1 would require removal of air by bleeding or priming while #2 would require filter replacement or cleaning the line.

In some instances, it could be the fuel pump has some debris/dirt in the intake, impeller or discharge.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
