The O/D OFF light was flashing after having a 2nd hand engine installed, also alot of wiring insulation had been stripped but still drove fine. Checked wires and plugs to Auto transmission and found an exposed wire had been twisted together and touching earth I assume causing O/D OFF light to flash.I soldered the wire and insulated.. O/D OFF light issue fixed but, takes off (1st) fine no prob, not shifting up until completely backing off accel then shifts up and just slips.. I have checked fluid and obviously cleaned and re-checked all trans plugs/wiring 3 - 4 times now and I am convinced its electrical.. any ideas plz?

I had two of these birds in my bay about a year ago. Same exact problem as yours.Did exactly what you did.... Pissed me off I started pressure tesing circuits. Pressure was low on 3rd and reverse. Checked out the Transmission range sensor (TR) aka manual shift valve.
This puppy is a little bit of a pain to ohm out but any resistance found when this switch is open replace it .
This switch should also be replaced if some resistance is found when the switch is closed. The TR was the fix in my case.
I'm still searching my notes on the other Camry with the same test results. hope this helped.
SOURCE: transmission won't shift to 2nd and 3rd gears goes from 1st to 4th.
Doesn't sound like a simple fix. I would suggest having it serviced.
SOURCE: 88 toyota supra auto trans slips. won't up shift to 2nd gear
yep, sounds like your transmissions on its last leg, mabye you can get by, by starting in 2nd, if you have the option lol, but auto tran's are pretty cheap on ebay or try www.supraforums.com seen one for 300$

MV could be the problem. Always work thru issue before buying ANY can of additive. Generally those things just mask the issue..not fix it. Change your fluid, and if that doesnt correct it,then take it in and have the tranny bands tightened. most shops do this relatively in expensively.
