SOURCE: 1988 jeep wrangler idoling rough

It does sound like a vacuum leak. Get a can of WD-40 and start spraying around the carb. It will rev up, and U can pin point the loose vacuum hose, are crack vacuum hose.

SOURCE: 1998 Jeep grand Cheroke hard cranking, sputtering, rough idling

In READING what you wrote, it appears that your car is difficult to start and pretty much is rough while running....It also appears that your are randomly replacing parts...How did you verify that the parts your have replaced had failed? I suggest you get a basic manual like chiltons or haynes as well as a decent digital volt/ohmeter, then do some testing. Pay close attention to map sensor test and manifold air temp. Having a good fuel pump does not insure that your injectors are clean enough to deliver a good spray pattern This will not show up on any test...you need to actually look at them. There are other items to look at but I think you will likely find your problem in what i mentioned. (you already checked for vacuum leaks, right?)
Good luck!

Have a 2004 z750. It has been sitting for about 2 years before I bought it. Rough idling and low revs.

There is probably debris in the fuel system. First try a good fuel additive. Make sure the fuel filter is clean.

When starting cold it turns over and runs for 2 sec. then stalls. Does this 2-3 times then will idle low til and runs rough till warm . When warm runs like a top.

Have the choke setting on your carb checked. if its fuel injected model---have the air and temperature sensors checked out

I have a 1988 jeep wrangler that won't idle.

1. check for vaccuum leaks.
2. check for a check engine code
3. check the throttle body/butterfly plate for carbon build up.

Will idle high sometimes up to 3000 rpms when driving or sitting still

I have the same Jeep and same problem. The engine was running rough. The Jeep dealer fixed a vacum problem in the manifold and they then decarbonized and cleaned the fuel injectors. After these repairs the idle problem began, it would spike to 2000 rpm while sitting at idle, sometimes it would slowly come down, sometimes I would have to tap the accelerator. I took it back in and they then replaced the throttle motor and reprogrammed the PCM (Power Control Module?) Still same problem. Now they suspect a another vacuum leak and I am taking it back in on Tuesday, will let you know what happens, $ 1,300 so far.
