I've changed all the sensors realted to this issue. The fuel pump is NOT the answer. It's getting fuel, getting spark, New sensors fuel pump and sending unit, relays and fuses. Does anyone have any clue why this thing just won't start? And please don't tell me its the timing as the belt is brand new and correctly installed by a volvo technician. Work fine one day and the next morning NOTHING. What gives?
If it's getting fuel and it's getting spark then there are really only a couple possibilities. 1. the timing is off. 2. there is no compression. We'll assume you have compression which leaves timing. Have the mechanic confirm that all the gears are at the correct timing marks. It's very easy to install a timing belt 180 degrees off if you don't pay attention.
Look man a mechanic is a guy who can change parts on ur car till it fixes it u need sumone to trouble shoot y did u change timing belt did it skip teeth good one day next start wont sounds more electrical or ignition do u have alarm system
Yes i have an alarm system. And the mechanic i use doesn't just fix, he troubleshhots as well, hence the reason for this post because even he seems to be at an impasse. As far as the alarm goes, i tried jumpering the pins 51E and 51F to see if that was the issue. Went through that whole thing with no success. The timing belt was replaced because it was well over 50,000 miles and it needed replacing.

this car is fuel injected so find the fuel rail look for the schrader valve witch looks just like a valve stem on your tire except its molded in the rail and has no rubber.you need 2 people to try this but find somthing to press the inside the valve and have a rag over every thing then have some one turn the key all the way forward but not starting. while the valve is being pressed make sure the rag is covering everything enough to keep gas from spraying you possibly in the face.so during this procedure once the key is turned foward gas should come out with decent pressure for about 2 to 3 seconds on some models it will come out nonstop so pay attention.if you do get gas pressure then the main fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pump relay and fuel flow can be knocked out of the possibility list.this is just a common problem to just start with.post again with resultes and new questions.

Jan,
With all the things you've listed that could be wrong, always start with the most obvious and least expensive....fuel filter would be my first shot..a clogged, or partially clogged fuel filter would allow enugh fuel to pass through it until the demand was to great...in effect..you'd be emptying the filter of all available fuel..then whenhte car sits..fuel would accumulate again.
Good guesses on the other parts though...you should grab a wrench and go at it...sound slike you know what yu're doing.

try pushing the 4 wires on the radio supression relay into the connector, then try starting it... does it start, run, then die? those connectors ****, i've had the same prob. have you let it huff on some ether? (starting fluid) does it come to life? that would confirm weather or not it its fuel related. my 740 i was loosing voltage to my injectors 10 volts and under, causeing them to inttermittantly not fire, caused by a bad connection at that supression relay.

If your air mass meter tests good, the I would tell you to check the HIGH PRESSURE PUMP underneath the Driver's side chassis pump holder-next to the fuel filter.
There are 2 pumps on your Volvo---the in-tank low pressure, and the chassis mounted high pressure. The car will run with the in-tank failed and the high pressure good. It will not run with the high pressure failed. Test the pump by applying voltage to the two terminals.
Another common failure, should the high pressure pump be good, is the HALL EFFECT SENSOR located in the distributor on the back of the engine. Once this sensor goes, it's no start. A rebuilt or used distributor may be the answer to your problem.
