I have a 1995 Honda Accord that was running fine...until my mother put a small amount (apx a gallon) of gas from an old gas can that has sat around for probably a year. My car starts, but practically every time I stop and start again, or reduce speed to turn the car dies (or nearly dies). I have tried running the gas nearly all the way out and then re-fueling with new and a bottle of fuel injector cleaner, this has not done any good though. I am so desperate for any help I can get with this issue (my husband recently passed away and I literally don't know anybody to ask advice from and going to a mechanic right now isn't a possibility). Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try some heet or iso dryer. They reduce water from gasoline. That is most likely what was in the gas can. Gas cans especially ones with just a small amount in them build up condensation inside.get this stuff and a can of sea foam dump them in your gas tank. Two bottles of the dryer and one can sea foam fill tank all the way full and run it out. Good luck.

SOURCE: Engine wont stay running. Please help.

change the filter first. IF the pumpwas bad it wouldnt start at all. It could be going bad but the only way to really test it is to pull your gas tank and at that rate you may as well replace it.

you could have a clogged injector causing the lack of fuel as well. you can try injector cleaner, Lucas is my personal preference I use it at every fill-up. 4-6oz per tank of gas depending on your tank size.

Are you sure you have correct timing? its definetly a fule problem, if timing is good then turn your key to the on position and try to listin for the fule pump to prime. While the key is in on position go to fuel rail, there is a valve on fule rail called sharader valve. Get a small screw driver and press valve in to check if car has fule pressure. if pressure is present then it is incorrect timing or possible bad cam sensor.

1998 Honda accord EX with 75k miles in it. Major tune up was done in 2009 and tire has been replaced. Having mileage issue since few years and giving between 260 to 270 miles per tank (15 gallon). Last...

Make sure the air filter is clean. Have a diagnostic scan done to the engine to see if there are any trouble codes or issues that would reduce your gas mileage. You are getting around 11 or 12 miles to the gallon, which isn't very good. But, judging by the low amount of miles on the car, you apparently do all your driving in traffic, and short distances with a lot of stop and go. If you let the engine warm up for long periods of time, especially in cold weather, that will drop your mileage considerably. Letting a car warm up for 10 or 15 minutes in the winter gets you 0 miles per gallon for that amount of time. Add all these factors up, and figure in the poor quality of today's fuel, 12 miles per gallon is not too far off from what you should be getting. If you have the v6 engine, your mileage was probably around 15mpg when the car was new. Now if you were to take your car on a road trip where you could drive a long distance with the cruise control set on 65mph, you would probably get around 18mpg.

I HAVE A 1995 HONDA ACCORD 4CYL 2.2L! OVERHEATING

I had this happen in two other cars. It turned out I had to replace the heater coil. ( Looks like a very small radiator) often located under the front passenger floor or in/on the firewall under the hood. Hope this helps.

1995 gmc jimmy-won't accelerate wants to stall

could be the fuel pump ...you will need to do a fuel pressure test on it ..the pressure should be 63 anything lower even so much as a few lbs will cause this to happen ...as well if it sat that long i would consider a complete tune up and check all vacuum lines for dry-rot

1996 5 speed honda accord. sat for a year. put in new battery. everything lights up, but car wont start. never had previous problem.

Are you saying the car turns over (cranks) but it does not start? Or, the car is Not turning over?
If it is cranking over but not starting, and it ran fine before sitting for the year, it may be water/moisture in the gas. Try some dry gas, and/or Carb-fuel injection cleaner in your gas tank.

I guess that I am not sure what is wrong. Does it stall? Cut out? What do you mean "pat the gas?" Please clarify more so we have a better idea what is going on.
