Check your battery connections for clean, tight connections and no deposits between the battery terminals and the connectors. Check the main charging wire from the alternator to the power distribution terminal. Also, have the battery properly load tested and checked for sulfation damaged cells. It sounds like your alternator is overworking itself. The normal charging voltage is 13.8-14.2VDC at idle. If it is high, I'd check the above items listed before buying another alternator.

I would first have the alternator checked by an auto electrician to ensure it is working correctly and is providing the correct volume of current. It may be faulty and when driving you will be drawing battery power instead of power from the alternator to run the electrics. This will drain the battery.
Alternators do not last forever and if you are still running the original unit it is likely to be on it's last legs and you will need a replacement unit.

There is a set of Diodes in the Alternator, when these are shot, the battery will drain even though the key is turned off. I went to the auto wreckers and took 4 sets off of other alternators and swap them out when this happens. (about every 5 months) Look for a small plastic cap on your alt. and remove it and the diode set underneath the cap and replace. easy peasy. Good luck.
