Question about 1993 Ford F150 SuperCab

1993 ford f-150 shifter busted

I moved my shifter and heard a cracking sound. It now moves freely between park and neutral, but does not shift gears. It appears that there is a linkeage break within the dashboard. behind the steering column. There was freezing weather and I cannot help but think the cable or linkage under the vehicle is frozen and that resulted in the problem. How do I fix this?

    I got the plastic clip under the dash that holds the cable on with an air chisel and a nail head cutter chisel. It popped right off. What a pain in the...,.!!!!!!!!

There are several possible ways this can happen, 1 on the transmission there is a cable that comes from the column, check to see that it is attached to the shift selector . This is located under your brake foot under the truck.
Another, on the column, towards the back of it under the dash, this same cable has a plastic cup that snaps on to a metal ball , it might have broke or just popped off.

My 1997 Chevy Cavalier automatic transmission is stuck in neutral and the shifter just glides from park, won't engage in any gears.
If the shift handle moves extremely freely (more than normal), changes are that the shift cable has become disconnected from the shift lever. This would explain the indicator not moving out of neutral.
You will need to access the shift lever by removing the console cover. Once you access the shifter check the cable connection to the level. If the cable is broken, it will need replacement. If the cable clip has broken or fallen off, it will need to be reattached.

1991 Ford F150 won't shift into park or reverse. Will go into neutral and drive, and the linkage at the transmission moves ok
The linkage may be out of adjustment preventing the shifter from moving into reverse or park.
One way to test this is to disconnect the linkage and manually move the lever on the transmision making sure that it can be set into park. Also try moving the lever counting each click from park to low gear to make sure it is clicking into each gear. If this works then the linkage is probably out of adjustment.
On the link cable there is typically a bolt in an oval shaped metal near the transmission shift lever.
1)Detach the shift cable from the transmission shift lever
2)Put the transmision shift lever in the park position, and also the shifter in the cab
3)Loosen the adjustment bolt
4)Reattach the cable to the lever
5)Tighten the adjustment bolt in place
6)Confirm that you can shift through all of the gears

Buick gear shifter moves freely and wont shift gears
you can shift it at transmission by hand to neutral or park and have someone inside start the car and you manually put in gear under hood and drive it to shop or garage, wherever

Have a 2003 Dodge Intrepid. I can't get the shifter on the column to move out of park even when I move the steering wheel up,down & side to side. Is it the cable, the link, what?

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.


There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

Toyota Tercel stuck in gear
Its a gear shift issue.


The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.


There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

4 Door 97 Ford Escort with automatic gear shift moves freely back and forth and is not connecting to any gear. Any suggestions?
The shifter cable attaches to the arm on the side of the transaxle.
Look under the hood and locate the cable coming from the firewall.
You can set the parking brake and move the arm if the cable is broke.

it is a bad neutral saftey switch, have this replaced and will be fine.

The transmission shifter is loose on my 1993 Ford Crown Victoria LX. It moves freely between park and neutral, and will not engage into park or reverse. It does engage into the forward gears, though. ...
sounds like an obstrution in the linkage look at the lever on the trans also check the cable to see if it is freyed

center console shifter? if so, likely could be a misadj shift cable, you can pull loose top cover per instruction maneul tells you how to get out of park till you can get it adj, or repaired

Emision test fails due to not being able to hold 1200 rpm at 25 mph. Failed emission test. Two separate stations reported the same thing. But here's the rub. I listened to the test and the vehicle is definitely maintaining 25 mph on the dyno and the engine does not change or slow down. It's the reader that loses the sync with the vehicle as admitted by the first station. He mentioned he's been a having a lot of trouble with manual tests lately. He kept attaching the pickup sensor to the coil wire and even tried the input from the cigarette lighter. He'd have it and then lose it. Any ideas on a work around as logic did not work?
