My 2007 Hyundai Azera Limited Sedan with 75,000 miles makes a whining sound while accelerating in 1st gear. Not all the time, maybe 10% of the time. Doesn't seem to matter if it's hot or cold outside, or dry or raining. Have had it in to the dealership and to a transmission shop--of course it didn't make the noise when they drove it. Any ideas?

There have been a lot of complaints lately of newer Hyundais having a "soft" clear coat. Hyundai has not recalled any of these vehicles yet, but I would strongly recommend taking it to the dealer and try to get it fixed under warranty. You have a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty specifically for the paint, unfortunately though, it is up to the dealer's discretion as to whether or not it is a "significant" problem. Never hurts to try though.

Did the 'Check Engine' Light come ON? Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

Which one is it?... 2007? or 2009?. In either case, the problem you describe is/may be under warranty.... call your nearest Service Department (Hyundai) and ask the right questions.. .you could get this problem cured and at no cost.
