Head gasket 2000 impala

I think I have a bad headgsket-- It overheated one day recently. It may have done this before, but since it is not my car I cannot say for sure. Now when I will accelerate more than say 1/2 throttle, I can feel it surge, as if the ignition is cutting-out. Thing is, it wont do this when the car is cold. I cannot see any coolant in the oil, and I dont see any external leaks. I have yet to do a compression test, but since it only does this when hot and under load, I am not optimistic in thinking I will find anything... Any thoughts?

Let the engine cool down enough to be able to take radiator cap off ... start car and see if there are any air bubbles coming out of the top - if there is then the leak is between combustion chamber and coolant port in join where gasket is - but if not then compression test will be needed but it may well be something else such as a module (eg air flow meter, oxygen sensor, fuel pump or bad spark...run a code reader on the electronic control unit if needed)

SOURCE: coolant leak/head gasket

If you have a head gasket leaking, and your engine is blowing a white smoke from the exhaust pipe, then you're taking coolant/water into your piston/s.

After a heavy acceleration your pressure is forcing more coolant/water into your cylinders..but don't be fooled..water/coolant is also getting into your cylinder/s when you're driving slow too.

You should get the head gasket repaired as soon as you can, or the head gasket may very well let loose and then you get to deal with having the heads shaved if they warp from the heat.

Either way..you really should get the gasket replaced soon.

SOURCE: Car overheated and now leaks coolant

It may be the water pump or the thermostat may be stuck closed. If the thermostat is staying closed it will cause back pressure to the radiator and hose on the top of the engine so water would probably be come out of the overflow tank. To check this open you hood t start the car. when the car is warmed up some take a towel and squeeze the top big black water intake hose going from the top of the radiator into the engine. If it is still very tight/hard the it is probably they thermostat replace it and see. With the leak being in the front it may be the water pump. at the front of the engine start and look for water to start coming out. Also look at All hose end connection for water. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: seem to be losing oil in coolant of 2003 impala 3.4

hello your intake gasket is most likely leaking internally into your engine.pretty common problem.the plastic and silicon gaskets get weak over time.

SOURCE: coolant leaking from back of motor

hi there
to answer your question it could very well be a frost plug that came out
but to verify this pressure test the system
but first take brake clean and clean the area well
so you can see it better
there is also a dye you can get to see it better
but i have used food coloring because the collant is one color it would help to have a different color to verify

SOURCE: My cav is leaking coolant, I dont think its

It,s quite possibly the thermostat neck. Simple fix, keep the coolant level in check until you can get it to a mechanic on Monday.

i hate to be the bear of bad news but do a head gasket check . most likely your head gasket is leaking a small amount and its getting burned off.
