My heat went on my 2001 jetta. the car would only over heat if you drove the car up around 65 or so. then the minute you back off the gas the car would cool rite down then be fine. I then chenged the thermostat. Now you can't even drive the car a mile without over heating. Garage trying to tell me he thinks it's the head gasket. My car ran pretty much fine until the new thermostat was in except no heat. what do you think??
There could be an air gap in you coolant circuit, make sure you have purged the entire cooling system of air that might have been be trapped in the cooling circuit when you changed the T-stat.
01 vw beetle, same thing, its not the thermostat. well mine was not. i would do a water pump the impeller is made of plastic and it breaks off the water pump shaft. just put new water pump on mine this weekend and my car runs great again! hey and have the timing belt replaced at the same time cause you have to remove it anyway. hope it fixes your car.
Ok i have 98 chevy cavalier with new water pump, radiator. and hoses . i put new thermostat in it today and now it over heats can anyone tell me why
yes it sound like you waited too long to repair the engine proble, try this, engine cold, remove the radiator cap, fill the radiator to the top with coolant, to the very top, have someone start the engine wile you look at the radiator coolant level, if the radiator spits or bubles is the engine crancks, the cylinder head is no good, but if it is ok. run the engine to temperature, make sure that the fan comes on on time to cool off the radiator. also make sure that the belt routing it is correct. good luck

My experience would bet that you have a bad water pump, the original w/p were made with plastic propellers. but before you do that, check your cyl head, very simple, fill the coolant reservoir to the very top, engine cold before you open the coolant cap. you can use water if you want, one way or the other the coolant needs to be drained to do any work, have someone start the engine, while you keep your eyes on the coolant bottle, if any coolant spills out while cranking the head may be damaged from overheating, but the water pump caused the problem. good luck.
