SOURCE: I am replacing the AC Compressor on my 1999 Chevy

Once the repairs are completed the system should be evacuated and held under vacuum for at least 45 minutes to an hour to boil off any moisture that has accumulated. It can then be charges with the appropriate amount of refrigerant. Moisture in the system can cause it not to function correctly.

If the system has not been operational or the compressor failed internally the receiver dryer/accumulator should also be replaced. Most compressors are not warrantied if the receiver drier is not replaced.

They show a 5031 as being used in both model years. To change it though you have to pull the steering wheel off. This means special tools etc.

I am replacing the AC Compressor on my 1999 Chevy Lumina 3.1 with a rebult. Will I need to recharge the AC system and if so, what is the cost associated with that?

What is the first thing I need to do to fix the AC that doesn't get cold on my 1998 chevy lumina?

you should make sure there is freon in the system, what we do is recharge the system with dye, then we run if for about 15 mins, then check it with an ultraviolet light and glassesfor leaks.
