How does 4 wheel drive work?

I have a 1991 Ford F-250 4X4 XLT Lariat Pickup. One day when messing around in the snow. I drove the passenger side up onto a snow bank, both passenger side tires were deep in the snow and started to spin and both driver side tires were on dry pavement. I put it in 4 high with the front hubs both locked and neither driver side tire appeared to have power to them. Today, however, in 2 high, my driver side rear tire had power and was slipping on the snow. What am I missing here?
Thanks!

Hi there , in order for your 4 wheel to work you have to drive a couple feet for everything to lock. If you are already stuck and you put it into 4 wheel, it won't engage. hope this helps you out

I have a 1991 Ford F-250 XLT Lariat automatic. I replaced the ignition switch, now I have no power anywhere. Help please?

Did you disconnect the battery when you replaced the ignition switch? Some ignition switches contain the immobilizer transponder. You would need to reset the anti-theft system. You need an auto electrician or an alarm installer / auto locksmith with a pro grade scan tool. Having said that, after a quick Google, it is a known issue!

Without a full diagnostic set of gages, it is hard to say. I am betting the seals in the master cylinder are shot.

2004 Ford Ranger XLT miss fires in blowing snow

Sounds like you have a bad spark plug wire. Start the vehicle, then take a squirt bottle of water and spray around the plug wires. You should find it. It'll look like static around the bad one. Also you should get the misfire. You'll probably find a worn area on the wire. Best wishes to you.

check on the foot panel on the right of the pasanger side, there is usually a hole in it where you can reset it.
