Transmission will not go in reverse

When shift in reverse car will not go. when its in neutral car is in drive. Car drives normal in neutral. About a month ago I pulled the car from New York to Indianapolis, the shift was in neutral but the battery was not disconnected. When I got to Indy and drove the car, couldn't get it in reverse and in "D" car wouldn't step up. Then I found out that neutral now was actually drive.

I have the exact same problem with my 1999 mercury cougar. When the car is in neutral it is in drive, though it does not seem like the regular drive and when the car is in reverse it is actually in neutral. Anyone know how the fix this or what is wrong.

Why won't My 2000 Lexus es300 go into reverse or neutral?

Probably the stick that control your transmission has moved. It's not sync. I recommend that you take it to a specialist.

Iam getting a delay of a few seconds whenever i shift between neutral and drive or neutral and reverse on my 2007 nissan tiida cvt transmission.

Have the oil changed and the filter checked . I have a Mitsubishi lancer and it is in good nick but If I apply power before the shift happens it chirps the tyres . have the bands and clutch pack adjusted Run fault codes to check for faulty solenoids and servos.

Transmission problems

It could be a sign of bad transmission solenoid. If so, your vehicle has trouble shifting into drive or reverse. Normally, when you start your car, you're able to shift into drive or reverse right away. With a bad transmission solenoid, the vehicle could have a delay of a few seconds, or even take several minutes to warm up and operate properly. During this delay, the vehicle will act similar to how it behaves in neutral. It won't stay in park, and when you press the gas pedal, the vehicle will make an engine revving noise but not move.

Car will not shift into gear

Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.
