I was starting my car when after a 1/2 rotation of the engine it quit, now the belts will turn but it sounds like the starter is all that is engaged cause the motor does not sound like it is turning over. I think its the timing belt but have heard that the timing belt on these cars are basically indestructable. Just wandering if the is something else to look for before tearing into that.
Thanks

Well, I hate to inform you of this, but all Nissan engines except the V-6 that was used in the Quest mini-van up to 2003 are interference engines- meaning that if a valve is fully open and the corresponding piston travels to Top Dead Center (TDC), they will contact forcefully resulting in a bent valve.
I have seen this many times as most people don't want to spend the $500 to have their timing belt replaced.
Fortunately for you, Nissan cylinder head castings are built pretty strong. I have pulled the cylinder heads and replaced bent valves (be sure to "lap them in" with a good valve lapping compound) and reassembled the engines with fantastic results. Most engines have broken valve guides and valves and pistons, but Nissans typically don't break these things.
This is a very involved job and should not be attempted unless you have pretty extensive experience with the internal combustion engine, so I would recommend a trusted mechanic or, ultimately, your local dealer.
Depending on labor rate, you're looking in the ball park of $1500 for this repair.
I hope this has been helpful!!

If you havent already try to change the transmission filter.Sometimes when the filter gets dirty fluid pressure is comprimised and certain pumps and solenoids which control shifting inside the transmission function off of the fluid pressure,
