2005 chevy cobalt stalls when foot is off the gas

It never stalls when giving gas. only when foot is on the brake. the rpm dial goes up and down when at a stand still. The meter fluxuates between 500 and 1000 rpms and dips below 500 causeing the car to shutoff. It also shuts off when driving down the highway

SOURCE: 89 Chevy Corsica keeps stalling while driving

. Have it checked for a trouble code. It seems like a sensor problem. ( Idle position , crankshaft position, camshaft position sensors could be bad. Also the EGR valve could be bad. with a caode you can narrow it down a bit.

SOURCE: wont keep idle, car stalls out

I had this same problem on my 2005 monte carlo, took mechanic a while to figure out it was the idle air control valve. They also replace the idle air control motor.

SOURCE: Cobalt not running at low rpm.......

All are possibilities but EGR valve makes the most sense. It's famous for causing poor idling and/or stalling at low RPMS. Best of luck.

disconecting the battery should reset the pcm. but you will need to find out what caused the problems.

You probably have a large vacuum leak. With the engine running, listen under the hood for a hissing sound. Check all of the rubber lines running from the intake.

My Cherokee stalls when I let off the gas

turn up your ile (rpm's) or your fuel filter is going bad, and it is not getting fuel which causes it to stall.

Most likely problem is dirt in the idle jets. If so, your carb needs a bit
of a cleaning.

As a temporary workaround, crack the gas open just a bit with your foot (so
it idles at 1,000 rpm or so) as you brake to a stop, then hold your foot on
the gas to keep it alive. This is an iffy proposition though, since you'd
have to brake with your untrained LEFT foot.
