Nick should have purged out in min.or 2 ,did you find any lines pinched ?or restricting flow ,but what you said fits that air is not getting out , on my 97 eldorado i was getting surges in fluid as i turned wheel hard soft ,then an old guy susgested putting the nose of car pointed up a steep ramp to get air to flow out ,IT WORKED, go figure sounds crazy ,ar far as filter pull it off (messy) and check for restrictions ,best i can do good luck ,hope some of this helped.and yes turning wheel all the way left and right is good, try holding at end of turn to here pump load off and on.it should force air out.

SOURCE: power steering leak

To try to find the leak, purchase a spray can of engine cleaner and spray the entire area of the pump and hoses. Then wash off with a garden hose. Fill pump reservoir with fluid. Have someone turn the steering wheel while you look in that area of the pump and hoses with a flashlight for the leak. Be careful of rotating fan and belts!

SOURCE: power steering makes noise and vibrates when

  • Check the Steering fluid first. and check the hose of the steering fluid make sure there is no leak. And after you add a steering fluid and still there is a noise visit a good mechanic and advise the mechanic to check the pump.

SOURCE: power steering pump leak. i hear a whinning noise,

90% of the time the problem is not the pump, but the hose connections. Detach the connections, clean any debis on the threads and reattach. Be careful not to cross thread when reattaching and don't over-tighten. Making a connection too tight might warp the connection and cause a leak. In severe cases you may need to replace the hoses. They are available at most auto parts store and will save you $$ over going to a dealer.

How too do the bleeding of power steering pump on 2007 Jeep compass?

Bleeding a power steering pump in general is just by moving the steering wheel from end stop to end stop. Do not keep it at the end stop for a prolonged time, because it will put a lot of stress on the pump and lines. Keep an eye on the power fluid level, because when air comes out, the level will drop.

New power steering pump put in, lines bleed, and still having whinning noise. Is there another part with the power steering pump we can check?

are you sure the noise is comming from pump and not the belt tension pulley right next to it ?

I use a wiffle ball bat with both end caps cut off (hollow tube) held to my ear to help localize noises on running engines I have even found tricky intake vac leaks with that trick

My 1997 pontiac Grand prix power sterring is gone and hard to turn i think it might be the pump or sterring whell fluid but cant find it help me please

You might want to check the power steering fluid. The resevoir is on the passenger side toward the passenger seat it is kind of hard to find. But i have a '97 Grand Prix and i noticed that whenever i would turn sharp while going pretty fast it would make a grinding noise and i could feel my steering wheel pulling me. But the thing is the power steering never whinned or anything. So i checked it and there was absolutely none in there. So check the fluids first.

My car was making a slight whinning noise, the dealer said it was the power steering pump, i have tried two pumps in addition to the original, both making the same noise ,though they were used pumps what...

It is probably air in the system, jack up the front end of the car and turn the wheels many times left to right all the way then right to left vice versa. This will bleed the system.
