Have it put on a car lift and take a look for loose parts or touching exhaust pipes.

SOURCE: fitting a wing mirror on the passenger side of a fiat punto

On the inside trim, you can remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them. You'll need to lift the door panel upwards in order to get it off the window ledge. Then you'll need to manipulate the panel and disconnect the door handle linkage from the door handle and disconnect the wiring for your controls. Then you can access the bolts that secure the mirror onto the door

SOURCE: fiat punto acceleration problems

nikki,

I had a similar problem with a 98 sporting. It turned out to be firstly the clutch had worn down to almost nothing and the fuel filter hadn't been changed in a good while so it got clogged. I would do the filter first. (located just under the drivers side near the rear wheel.

My fiat punto 1.2elx, clutch pedal clunking and shudders when driving off from a stop start.

You should replace the clutch kit !
The clutch disc is out of order because the pedal is clunking. Also shudders & smells of burning.
There is the risk of the car stopping on the road !

Solution for cars Exhaust hitting road bumps

It sounds like your springs and or struts are well worn out from probably about 12 years of holding up the weight of the car and its passengers. The added weight of the second person is pulling the car down that much more now that the suspension has worn out. I'm not familiar with a Punto but I bet its a small car, the smaller the car the smaller the suspension (unless its a Porshe) and they usually last about 50,000 to 70,000 miles before you start to notice a "soft" suspension, swaying in turns and bit of role as you take turns hard. Hope it helps.
