Just replace filter/ ATF for isuzu trooper 1998. ****** leaks a little bit. not sure of the torque for the transmission pan. anyone know how tight to tighten bolts for transmission pan?
Tighten then in an X pattern working outward to about 12 foot pounds. Do not over-tighten, use a rubber/cork composite gasket if available.
Do not use silicone sealer, it is a dry fit. You assure a leak if you do.
I said Rubber cork composite was better not the only thing you can use. You said you put silicone form a gasket sealer on the gasket, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT ON THE TRANSMISSION PAN, IT WILL ASSURE YOU GET A LEAK AS IT "SQUEEZES" OUT. Use a FRAM brand or factory gasket..
i use just silicon becasue i check two shops pan gasket but not available.Mechinic advice me dont worry we are using before silicone without gasket but it was not right way

Hello smeet3992: The transmission uses 5w-30 for tempretures up to 95 degreese in tempreture. Uses 15w-40 for all tempretures greater then 50 degreese. If you are in an area that has extreme fluctuation in tempretures I would use the 15w-4o engine oil. I also senrt a picture of where to check the oil at. Make sure you pull the right plug. The reverse idler pin has the same size bolt head.

Remove cover from the relay and fuse box under the hood. Find the fuse for the ECM and remove. Wait 20mins and replace. If the light comes on again see a mechanic. I've had this problem over about 10 years and it is only a false alarm. If the problem persists see a mechanic. DO NOT TRY TO USE ANY CAR BATTERY POWERED DEVICE IN THE CAR UNTIL THE FUSE IS REPLACED
SOURCE: how do I check the transmission fluid of my 98 Isuzu trooper ?
In fact, you can. The large transmission pan has two plugs in the bottom. The higher one is a fill plug. The lower one is a drain plug. The proper procedure for checking the level is: A) Drive vehicle until transmission reaches operating temperature (go for a 30 min drive). B) Park vehicle and apply emergency brake, run gear selector through all gears (engine running, pausing 5 sec.'s in each gear) from Park, down, and back to Park (very important to be in park when checking level). C) Immediately remove the upper fill plug and check level with your finger, it should be just up to the hole, fill as necessary. NOTE: If more than a dribble of fluid drains out when you first open the fill plug then it was overfilled or the procedure was not followed. Use a catch pan under the hole just in case. Filling of the fluid is by means of a small pump and hose, commonly found at auto parts stores.

The 1998 Isuzu Trooper is identical to the 1996 & 1997 Troopers with the 3.2L V6 motor. Chilton-Haynes have a decnet and detailed manual for this car. It's available on Amazon.com. That's where I got mine!

If the fluid is up -
it could be a vacume loss or the shifting module..
The shifting module is what tells it to shift - and it is controled by vacume pressure..

Hello Dennis, I already put the pan on using a star pattern. I am gonna have to go back and check on the tightness because of the leak. so the torque wrench should be at 12 lbs. The gasket we used was rubber only not cork. what's the deal with the rubber/cork. I think I have seen one. we used a silicone seal on both sides of the gasket. I read some forums that suggest to use Lucas transmission leak. Thanks for the help. any other tips would be appreciated. Brian
I will have to find a cork/rubber gasket then. I'll see if I can find one through the local stores. Thanks for the help. I'll just try to reuse the ATF that I put in there too.
Dennis, Nobody sells cork gaskets for the Isuzu trooper. any ideas?
friend first option must use the pan gasket and if you could not find the isuzu trooper gasket you can use honda acura pan gasket both are same
