When you changed your fuel pump, did you check the tank for rust? This sounds like the pump is picking up some rust and not allowing the fuel to get to the motor. twhen the engine dies the pump shuts off and the sock clears up. Make sure and check your ignitioin fuse if its out the car will start it just wont stay running verry long sometimes in most cases will turn over but not start

Could be anything electrical. A weak relay, the coil pack or ignition module, and so on.
You'll need to figure out what is loosing electrical power when it fails to start to know what to test. You might start with the fuel pump relay.
my sister had the same problem. There are 2 sensors that can cause this when they go bad. One is the oil pressure switch, which is located near the oil filter. When the PCM reads this switch, and gets a low reading, it will automatically kill the engine. The switch costs around $4.00 and is a 5 minute replacement job. The other possibility is that the crank position sensor has gone bad. When this sensor goes bad, the PCM can't read the appropriate speeds of the crankshaft, and will adjust the fuel and air mixture to compensate, often times the engine will die because it is getting insufficient fuel and air. The Crank position sensor is located on the engine block near the water pump. It is around $40.00 and at the most a 30 minute replacement job if you are unfamiliar with the process. possibly 4 things 1 bad ignition coil heating up then breaking down,2 clogged fuel filter,3 weak fuel pump,4 bad throttle position sensor or map sensor to check sensors simply put on hand held scanner and look for codes. replace fuel filter replace coil pack along with tune up plugs wires put fuel pressure gauge to see if fuel pump is working properly
I have a 1996 Lesabre. I had a similar problem that slowly got worse. I brought it to two different mechanics that did diagnostic checks and could only "suggest" what to replace to fix the problem. Their problem was that it wouldnt stall out while they had the mv. After replacing a bunch of sensors and the fuel pump/ filter, I solved the problem by replacing the Crank Sensor. Its located behind the lower crank pulley on the 3.8 lt motor. Hope this helps!
Hi,trottle position sensor ( tps )is a very accurate diagnostic,if this dosnt fix it run a fuel presure test for a posible defective fuel pump,. good luck......
