Replace the serpentine belt tensioner. Expect to pay approx $150.00 if installed by a mechanic.

Much will cost replace power steering

the hard power steering is given away by the loud squeaky noise . It is the drive bely slipping from worn out or needs adjustment.. If the key problem is in the switch the replace the switch of if it is not engaging the starter motor have a look at the battery connections (shiny clean and tight) or the solenoid or starter relay.

My 2000 BMW 328i has a horrible squeaky noise when it is cold and stops after about 15 minutes what is the problem and how do I fix it?

I assume that the squeaky noise stops after 15 minutes, not the engine. If that is the case, you may have a very worn belt. This won't cost you a ton of money. You have a serpentine belt on your car, so that is a likely culprit. You may also have a bad battery, which in cold weather would perhaps have just enough to start the car but would also demand the alternator (and by extension, the belt) to provide enough amps to recharge the battery after a severe draw,
Before the winter, I recommend a new serpentine belt and a new battery, after a test of your alternator output and the battery at a good shop. You should not expect to spend more than $200 max, if everything is wrong.

When starting if cold belt is loud

It needs a new drive/alternator/serpentine belt. It is a problem with older cars, as the belt wears out, it gets squeaky. It should be a quick, cheap replacement job.

It has a squeaky serpentine belt, now they say it is the tensioner. How much should that cost to repair?

If the belt is tight, I'd goto the Auto Parts store an buy a can of Belt Dressing now called "Belt Conditioner" for a couple bucks. Open the hood and spray it on the belt and that should take care of the problem.90ranger_3.jpg
