Electrical failures on 98 Sunfire, 2.2

My ABS have failed and the brake warning light is on, although fluids are full and brakes work normally. At the same time, the 'check engine' light came on as well as the ABS light. At the same time, the cooling fan does not seem to come on, but this is hard to tell in mid-winter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

ABS sensor : If you've been in the snow & slush lately, stop at a carwash & rinse the back side of your wheels off, front, back, over, under, as much as you can, it may be tripped due to sensor covered in dirt or slush and not giving necessary signal. As far as cooling fan coming on, let it sit & idle & watch your temp gauge. When at normal operating temperature + or - a few degrees, it should come on, but watch & see if gauge goes too high towards hot, and it doesn't come on, have fan operation checked.

On my 91 cougar it sat for about 2 months due to a power steering problem I fixed that problem now my abs and brake lights stay on is it possible if I bleed all four brakes they might shut off?

"Is it possible if I bleed all four brakes they might shut off?"

If you bleed the brakes all you will do is remove any air in the brake lines and replace the brake fluid with new fluid. Do this in any event if the brake fluid is 2 yrs old or more.

This will have no affect on the ABS warning light and when the light is displayed the ABS has turned off because there is a problem with the ABS. You will not get it back on until the cause is determined and fixed which may be just a failed wheel speed sensor.

The brake warning has probably been triggered by the same failure that has caused the ABS warning light (since they came on together and bleeding the brakes should make no difference).

If the car sat for 2 months, no doubt the battery went flat. You have not mentioned anything about the battery but if your battery is in poor shape this can trigger warning lights in many cars especially the ABS (and stability control systems).

The best option is to have the vehicle scanned for fault codes that have been generated and there will be one or 2 if these warning lights are displayed. Scanning the ABS for codes will show up one or more issues and you can trace the problem from there. I think you will find the brake warning and ABS warning have been caused by the same fault.

In any event make sure you check the brake fluid level in the car and look for any external leaks of fluid that may have developed. Check the operation of your brakes to ensure they are working normally and that the brake pedal is not slowly dropping to the floor when you continue to apply pressure. Bleed the brakes if the brake fluid is 2 yrs old or more.

Abs light is on and brake light just come on. brake fluid is full and brakes seem ok

Most commonly a broken ABS sensor wire at one of the wheels. Can you test the car somewhere where you can invoke the ABS? The sensors can fail as well although it's the wire more likely.

My Brake light and Abs lights will not go off

Theres a few things, brake fluid could be low, but not really a common thing, you will need to get it scanned usually the front abs wiring to the speed sensors wear over time. And getting it scanned will tell you what has turned the abs light on (code wise)

2001 pontiac sunfire abs and check engine light is on. brake fluid is full and the front brakes were just changed about a month ago.

I think these lights are not related. The ABS light means the ABS is not working, and has nothing to do with the brakes working. You can have brakes and not have the ABS part working. I don't think a bad ABS would turn on the check engine light, but it may.

Abs light stays on

There is a problem with the ABS (Anti-Lock Brake System). Your normal brakes will still work but your ABS may or may not work. Unless you know what you are doing seek professional help.

My abs light is always on and now my brake warning light is on but brakes seem to be working fine

The ABS light is a warning that you have an issue with the ABS system. The red brake warning lamp is serious. It is telling you that there is an issue with the base brakes. Your car will be ok with an ABS light, but the red warning lamp could be really dangerous. You should have them checked ASAP. It could be from many causes. A park brake switch, low fluid, the causes are too numerous to list. Please for your safty have it checked. Good Luck

2002 suzuki grand vitara brake warning goes on and off

Do you have a brake fluid accumulator(ABS)? If yes, the pistons/pulsing assembly are worn, and may need to be replaced.

If not, you may have a vacuum leak in the power booster (located on the firewall). Check all hose and clamps for a tight fit/cracks,etc. Vacuum leaks cause intermittent brake failure lights.

You may want to park the vehicle on a clean surface, pump the brakes a few times, and check for brake fluid leaks. If there is a leaking wheel cylinder (back brakes) , caliper (front brakes), or brake line, you will be able to see it.

Leaks cause pressure loss, and, thus, the brake warning light will illuminate.
