SOURCE: My 98 chevy blazer won't shift into 4wd.

Most common problem is the vacuum diaphragm that is so inconviently mounted UNDER the battery tray. The cable that locks in the front diff is attached to it and vacuum pulls it in/out.

SOURCE: 4wd will not engage on 2002 gmc sierra 1500

try going into reverse for 10 feet then go to drive for 10 feet that might help if not it is to the wiring to you 4x4 engage system (wires to your wheel hub)

2000 chevy blazer passenger front wheel noise

driving in 4wd on hard surfaces produces what is known as torque wind up as the wheels cannot slip so the variations of distance going around corners , dips in the road etc place considerable strain on the transmission , transfer case , drive lines and diffs
that is why it is difficult to get out of 4wd unless you drive with 2 wheels on a grass verge to relieve that torque wind up
as for the noise check wheel bearings and the cv ("U") joint at that wheel as there appears a proble where the dog teeth in the hub are not engaging properly or are jumping out of engagement

Sound crazy, but alot recommendations say thet when you pass from Hi to Lo must insure that you have foot on the brake pedal.

Loss of vacuum engages the front hubs; other for no 4 wheel drive and no indicator light. Go home pulled all the fuses that had to do with the 4 wheel drive system, put them back in and 4 wheel seems to work fine now. And no there were no blown fuses.

I recently had same case and it was a bad electric motor on the transfer case (31000 miles). The 4x4 light wouldn't even light up or engage so I would lean towards it being something different on your end.
Also, could be the actuator pin or w/e the little plastic piece is that engages the 4LO might be broke, or maybe a couple of other things.

Keep us updated.

I have a 1996 chevy blazer and dont know how to disengage from four wheel drive to two wheel drive?

As I recall the 96 blazer had electronic shifting for 2wd to 4wd. There should be a small panel on the drivers dash buttons for 2wd, 4wd lo and 4wd hi.

Simply press the desired button while stationary and if the system is functioning properly then it will shift and the light for the engaged type of drive will be lighted. Generally you would like to be in 2wd for this vehicle.

1997 Chevy Blazer 4wd

I have the same problem with mine, I also had the same problem with a ford explorer, they told me it was the transfer case which has to do with the hubs. it jumps into 4 wheel drive then when you hit 2 wheel it stops.. Always had a problem with this in both of my SUV's.

2000 blazer 4 wheel drive problem

It's most likely the "four wheel drive actuator" This is located on the front differential housing. It's cylindrical shaped and has a large hex (about
1-1/4") and two wires coming out of it. Usually they short out and blow the fuse but, I've also seen where they just quit working and sometimes they just get slow to work. The "actuator" has a heating element in it and it warms up, some sort gas, causing it to expand thus engaging the front wheels. In cold weather it may take a minute or so for it to engage, so put in four wheel drive and wait for a bit and see what happens.

There is an electric motor that engages drive.  Mine was stuck and a mechanic beat it w a hammer while I was in vehicle w brake on in drive pushing the diff 4wd buttons.  It freed up and started working fine!!  It looks like a small starter under car on passenger side. Or buy one on ebay  for cheap and replace it
