The button on the gear shift knob keeps popping out.

There is a botton on the gear shift knob that has to be pushed in, in order to move the shifter to different gears. The button keeps popping out. I need a new button.

Sounds like my problem. its just tthat plastic button that comes out so you have to find where it fell and put back in again. can replace the whole handle.

SOURCE: gear shift knob

Usually there is a small metal clip at the bottom front of the shift knob (looks like a staple.) Just pull it out and pull the knob straight up.

SOURCE: gear shift won't move out of park sometimes

look for transmission shift interlock solenoid fuse.or a bad brake switch will cause transmission not to come out of park.

SOURCE: Hi. I have a

Sounds like a low pressure problem that commonly is due to low ATF fluid condition so check your fluid level and color first. If the fluid is at the right level with the engine warm running and in the park position, there are some other low pressure problems with this transmission.

On this vehicle are common failures of the Transmission Pressure Control Solenoid (PCS) and the connections at the Transmission Pass-Thru Connector.

Keep in mind that this problems with the Transmission PCS are identified in TSB # 00-07-30-002B. Problems with the connections of the Transmission Pass-Thru Connector are identified in TSB #02-07-30-022B.

Remember, the cost to replace the Transmission PCS is estimated at $350 The cost to repair the Transmission Pass-Thru Connector is estimated at $150.

Hope helps.

I have a 2005 Buick rainier. Today we pulled up at home and the gear shift button popped off and stoped In neutral. Now it won t move or start . what is going on and how do I fix it

I found this info for shift knob. Note the picture. After the shifter is off, maybe a spring loaded piece sticking up from shift rod, Push it down and shift it. I'm just posting this from memory, different vehicle. You can talk to your local autostore or service department at local dealership or local salvage yard or ebay for a new part.

Having a hard time putting my car in gear. It has to warmm up in order to engage the button on the shifter to put the car in gear.

The shifter knob that houses the button may be worn out or the shifter mechanism may need to be lubricated. You can try spraying a little WD-40 around the shift button and into the shift knob using the straw provided with the spray can.
To lubricate the shifter, the shift knob will have to be removed and the shift plate removed to gain access to the shifter mechanism.
Good luck.

Went to park in my 2006 envoy. Shifter got stuck in neutral and the shifter button will not depress.

Same thing happened to me today(but while in drive!). had to crawl UNDER vehicle, driver side, behind the transmission where it narrows down, and the shifting rod (connected to your shifter in vehicle) came disconnected from what i assume was a gear knob on transmission. its basically a screw and nut holding the two together. ill temporarily replace it tomorrow until i can order correct screw and nut. hope this is same situation and helps. easy fix.

ps if you push the gear -knob all the way forwards under vehicle, that is in the Park gear.

2002 Pontiac aztec gear shift button wont depress.

there is a bypass for the safety switch, unfortunately you have to remove the shift cover, the whole plastic piece. there is a white "lever" that you can push that will move the pin out of the way so you can shift it, you have to hold the piece and move the shifter at the same time. it is on the right side of the shifter base (under the plastic piece) you will see what I mean when you remove the center piece.

94 honda accord hard to shift from park

You seem to have two (2) separate problems one may be a BAD brake light switch this switch is mounted at the top of BRAKE pedal and control the locking mechanism on gear shifter(safety component-for example if a kid is sitting in seat with vehicle running he/she will NOT be able to put vehicle in gear without stepping on brake). The other problem is a BAD shifter cable-this cable moves the selector in the transmission when you move shift knob. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA

Cannot push button in on gear shift

You need to have someone or two to push the car to get the pressure off. If you are facing downhill have them push the front end, if uphill push the back. Release parking brake first because that will keep it from moving. After pushing a few inches you should be released and can shift but be carefull you don't run anyone over (go for neutral with foot on brake) Hope this helps.

1988 suzuki samurai WONT MOVE

First thing just try to push or pull the 4x4 lever if you get it to move and it feels like it went into some gear try to drive the truck. If this works look on the shifter for the 4x4 and put it in 2 wheel drive (H2 is two wheel drive,H4 is 4x4 high, and L4 is 4x4 low range).Make sure you have the clutch depresed when you try to move the 4x4 lever. If you try this stuff with no fix try and look for clutch adjustment on the transmision you may need to adjust it or your clutch is bad.
