SOURCE: Evaporative emission system - small leak/no BB flow condition

Although I recommend you buy a Haynes service manual for your Dodge, I think you will find the canister attached to the firewall or one of the fender wells. Most of them look a lot like an overgrown spam can and it will have two connections on it.

SOURCE: trouble code po456 evap small leak ? could it be the gas cap ?

Can't say 100% obviously, but quite often that is the cure, but try to take some time to make sure all your hoses , in the system are in good shape & tight.

SOURCE: Evap leak

your caravan has a system to control fumes from the gas tank .. any evaporating fuel is absorbed into a canister .. that is connected to a evap/purge solenoid in the engine compartment that directs the fumes to be burned in the engine once its running .. .. the problem can be as simple as a damaged or leaking or wrong type gas cap .. if the gas cap doesnt seal well then air can be drawn into the evaporitive control system ... also if any of the hoses from the evap/purge solenoid to the canister (located near the gas tank) are cracked or loose, you will get the same results .. some of these hoses are rubber .. some are hard plastic .. sometimes they come loose at the canister and need a clamp added ... the evap/purge solenoid could also be bad but much more likely the gas cap is just bad, bent or wrong ..

SOURCE: 03 grand caravan ex 3.8. check engine light - code

Customer Concern: MIL on and code P0456 for a leak in the evaporative system. How to test the Leak Detection Pump (LDP). Tests/Procedures: 1. With the engine running, connect a test light to the Violet/White wire at the LDP. The test light should light.

2. Ground the center wire at the LDP. The test light should go out. This is the intake stroke of the pump. The LDP pulls in fresh air when the center wire is grounded with a vacuum supply to the LDP.

3. Remove the ground from the center wire and the test light should light up again. The pump has just pumped air into the evaporative system. The test light lights up when the diaphragm is in the down position.

4. To test the LDP for leaks, cap off the port that goes to the canister or to the vent valve. This is the port that is slightly above the bottom port that goes to the vent filter.

5. Now try to cycle the LDP again by grounding the center wire. The test light will still go out but now when the ground is removed from the center wire, the test light should remain out for at least 20 seconds if the LDP is good. Potential Causes: Leak Detection Pump (LDP)
Vent Valve

SOURCE: 01 dodge ram 1500 5.2 4WD code P0455 evap system leak.

This code will not stall or no start of your engine, evap only work when engine is off, it is to reduce the fume your gas tank lets out to protect the o zone, but it will not pass Emission test, also could be some thing a small as your gas cap not sealing right.

What does this code P0441 mean for engine light on 2004 dodge ram 1500 truck?

2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck Code P0441 indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer functioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
EVAP emission canister purge is controlled by a valve which allows engine vacuum to pull stored fuel vapors from fuel tank into the engine to be burned, rather than be vented to atmosphere. A vacuum switch is used to detect when flow exists. If the PCM commands purge and sees that the switch is closed (indicating no detected purge flow) P0441 is set.

Symptoms :

Likely, no symptoms will be discernible to the driver, other than the illuminated Check Engine Light.

Causes :

A code P0441 could mean one or more of the following has happened:

Bad vacuum switch Broken or damaged EVAP line or canister Open in PCM purge command circuit Open or short in Voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid Faulty purge solenoid Restriction in EVAP solenoid, line or canister Corrosion or resistance in purge connector Bad PCM

Possible Solutions :

With a P0441 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try: Common Chrysler fix - Replace Leak Detection Pump / LDP Repair damaged EVAP lines or canister Repair open or short in voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid Repair open in PCM purge command circuit Replace purge Solenoid Replace vacuum switch Repair restriction in Evap line or canister or solenoid Repair resistance in purge connector Replace PCM

I hope this helps.

Code po456 on my 2006 mustang 6 cyl. is there an easy fix

This elaborates more on the code.
P0456 - Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (Very Small Leak)
Description:
The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the complete evaporative emission (EVAP) control system for the presence of a very small fuel vapor leak. The system failure occurs when a fuel vapor leak from an opening as small as 0.508 mm (0.020 inch) is detected by the EVAP running loss monitor test.
Possible Causes:
• Very small holes or cuts in the fuel vapor hoses/tubes
• Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to the EVAP system components
• EVAP system component seals leaking. See the Possible Causes for DTC P0442
Diagnostic Aids:
Check for a missing fuel filler cap or the integrity of the cap.
Check for loose or damaged vapor hoses. Visually inspect the EVAP canister inlet port, CV solenoid filter, and canister vent hose assembly for contamination or debris.

I have a 2004 town and country. I have had codes po440 on for about 9 months with no symptoms. Then po456 showed up. My van started surging wanting to take off after filling the tank. Then it would not...

code p0440 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system--malfunction===causes -hose connections--intake leak--EVAP canister
code po456 refers to the evaporative emission system--very small leak detected===causes --mechanical fault--hose---EVAP pressure sensor. The cracked hos may be the fault but I would be looking at the canister for the fault.

What does the code po456 mean?

Usually this P0456 code is caused by an incorrect or faulty gas cap. Filling the fuel tank with the engine running could conceivable cause this code as well or if the cap wasn't properly tightened. Any of the following could also be the cause:

* A small leak in any of the EVAP hoses or fuel tank hoses
* A small leak in the purge valve or vent valve
* The EVAP Canister may be leaking

My taurus failed due to code p0442 ecap emiss ctl sys leak detected (small leak)

Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0442 indicates that a fuel vapor leak has been detected [as small as 0.10 cm (0.04 inch)] in the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system.
Note: Prior to performing the following diagnosis inspect the Canister Vent Solenoid (CV) for contamination. A situation may exist where contamination holds open the Canister Vent (CV) solenoid enough to set DTC P0442 and also plugs the port to atmosphere enough to keep system from being vented quickly.
    • After market parts and accessories nonconforming to the EVAP system specifications.
    • Damaged, cross threaded or loosely installed fuel filler cap.
    • Small holes or cuts in fuel vapor hoses/tubes (EVAP canister tube, EVAP canister outlet tube or EVAP return tube) in the EVAP system.
    • Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to EVAP system components.
    • EVAP system component [EVAP canister purge valve, fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor, canister vent (CV) solenoid, fuel vapor control valve tube assembly or fuel vapor vent valve assembly] seals leaking.
    • CV solenoid partially open when commanded closed.
    • EVAP canister leaking.
  • Check for presence of fuel filler cap.
  • Verify that the CV solenoid is properly seated on the EVAP canister (if possible).
  • Visually inspect for cut or loose connections to fuel vapor hoses/tubes in following locations:
    • EVAP canister to EVAP canister purge valve.
    • EVAP canister to fuel vapor vent valve assembly.
    • fuel vapor control valve tube assembly to fuel tank (if applicable).
