The vacuum pump in the Dodge W150-350 Cummins Diesel is integral with the power steering pump on the driver's side of the engine. remove it as one unit from the accessory drive unit. Then you have to press the gear off the shaft to separate the power steering pump from the vacuum pump

SOURCE: removing speedometer 1992 dodge ram 250

I don't know if it's the same as my D150. But it's pretty simple:
1) remove about six screws from under the upper lip of the dash face bessal and one under the overhand above the radio.
2) carefully jimmy the bessal straight out. It has about four spring trim-clips that will release under pressure.
3) this exposes the speedometer instrument cluster. It is one big assembly (speedometer, fuel, temp and elctrical guages, etc) attahed with about six #2 phillips face screws. Remove these.
4) There are three back contections on the cluster: two electronic and one mechanical. Carefully start to pull the cluster out along the steering column until you see the shift indicator control line ( a small fishing-line with a hook on the end) attached to a small steel flang on the base of the steering column. This can be unhooked with your fingers or needle-nose pliers.
5) as you pull the cluster further out you can reach behind and unplug the two electronic connections. The round one simply pulls straight out. The last (rectangular) one has a pinch latch you need to compress to allow the plug to come out.
your finished!

Toyota93 man,
I have the same problem with my 97 f-250 right now, same engine. I just replaced the booster and it didn't solve the problem. Obviously we are losing the vacuum somewhere. Check your vacuum lines for cracks as that is the cheapest. also the check valve on the booster itself. The vacuum line from the booster goes to a "vacuum tree" "vacuum solenoid"? I dont know, no one can tell me. Not even the ford dealership. but its mounted on top of the wheel well and it has 4 vacuum hoses coming off of it. The largest hose then goes to a vacuum pump on top of the power steering pump. That is my next change. I'll let you know if that fixes it. Let me know if you get an answer.

2001 dodge 2500 diesel oil leak in front of power

The power steering pump is piggie backed to the vacuum pump. The seal in the back of the vacuum pump has engin oil under presure behind it cousing a leak that gets worse over time. Cummins make a seal kit to fix this leak.

F250 superduty a/c problem

Sounds like a vacuum problem, you didnt specify gas or diesel, on gas engines the hvac doors work off of engine vacuum, on diesels they have a seperate vacuum pump on the passenger side fenderwell, another place damage to the vacuum line can occur is under the glove box near the passenger kick panel, it could also be a control head problem. -Jared

Engine overheating

If the water pump isn't leaking, It's doubtful that it's the culprit.

Most likely the thermostat is stuck open, or stuck closed.

Given the age of the truck, and the higher operating temperatures of a diesel (i have a Dodge with a Cummins - so I'm feeling your pain on the fuel prices too), I would do a complete cooling system flush, new thermostat, and check for the upper and lower radiator hoses for signs of "bulging" where they meet the engine and the radiator. If they haven't been changed in a while, this is the time to do it, before they burst when you're in the middle of no where.
