1994 jeep 42re transmission shifting problem

1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee/ 4.0 / Automatic / 4x4 / 6 cyl / 42RE Transmission. I am new to this forum and I very much hope that somebody will have a useful answer for me. When I start the car, the shifting works fine for about 100 - 300 Yards. After that it stays 3th gear. If I want the shifting to work, I need to switch of the car and restart. The problem remains with cold or warm engine.. I have a Rebuild transmission and Transfer Case ( from Transmission Part Distribution Inc. ) that worked fine for about 2000 Miles. I have replaced my ECM / PCM for about 3000 miles ago. When the problem started I checked my Transmission Oil and had my Governor Pressure Switch replaced. I have spend a lot of money on parts for this Jeep ( replaced suspension Parts/ Replaced Master Brake and Brake Sensors / Other sensors / Radiator / Fluid and power steering containers/ Airco Condenser and Compressor/ Gabriel off road Shocks/ Sound system/ Interrior decorating/ New Tires and so on) and the car drives fantastic(like new), if not for this shifting problem.. Hope that somebody ( ****** specialist ) might have a good solution for my problem. .

I'm having a problem with my tranny not wanting to shift automatically at all. Seems like a dead stop its stuck in low gear. Have to manually shift and does not go into overdrive. I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Can anyone help me cause I've swiched out throttle control sensor, filter change, new tranny cooler and heavy duty lines. I'm at a loss and scratching my head. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

SOURCE: overheating engin when at idel, fan not working

does both the hoses get hot bottom and top? this will tell you if theres flow through the radiator. If you have a voltage tester test the wires on the fan connecter check there is current going to the fan if so replace the fan its a common problem as previously stated.
if there is no power to the fan when the vehicle should be turning it on i.e. its hot enough check the fan relay under the hood.

SOURCE: Replace governor switch on 1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4.0

Governor switch? Never saw one on a Jeep! The only governor in your vehicle is inside the transmission and non-servicable without teardown. Slipping is a product of low pressure usually due to internal wear and seal failure. Do a trans fluid change. If the fluid is very black and there is a substantial amount of debris inside pan and on filter, it may be a lost cause. To buy a bit more time, the only additive I've ever had any luck with is made by lucas oil products. Follow directions on bottle. If it works better after that, Change again in about 2 weeks. If not, start saving up for a new unit!!
Good luck

SOURCE: transmission issues (I think)

Use a engine scanner to pull codes, If none it sounds like the lock-up torque converter may not be disengaging at idle. Or you have a idle air control valve or TPS going bad, then repair codes by replacing failed sensor or shift control solenoid as needed. If no codes are present your transmission could have a internal failure. It's also been know that oil transmission fluid in the system will have a higher fluid retention causing the 2nd gear solenoid to stick causing the transmission to stay in second till the line pressure rises and drops back to first with a hard shift. Keep me posted be glad to get your transmission running again

the trans matches the engine and matching PCM.

I have a 94 cherokee limited 5.2 v8. which transmissions are come

The 46rh is a hydraulic transmission as where the 46re is an electric transmission. With minor wiring you can replace the 46re with the 46rh but not the other way around. Your transmission would stay in limp mode and wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear. So the answer is no.
