My coolant was empty, they filled it , now I have this burning rubber smell

Before I got my brakes done , I once or twice smelled like burning rubber but not bad. I got the fluids filled and they told me my coolant level was empty so they filled it and I also got my front brakes done. Yesterday after driving for about two hours (stop and go) I once had to hit the brakes hard . Once I got home the smell of burning rubber was awful and my front left wheel was extremely hot

SOURCE: WHEEL CYLINDERS LEAKING

not a hard job, but like all things you better know what your doing. Replacing the wheel cylinders is easy but then you need to bleed the brake system of air bubbles. There are plenty of sources for this so just do some research. I have found the brake system weak on my 2000 caravan, so I need to do some research on better components.

SOURCE: Grinding noise from Heater and burning smell from 1997 Dodge Cara

the problem could be in the blower wheel or motor, is there a vibration with the blower on and grinding. i rec removing blower motor and inspecting that further. debris could be cought inside it or blower may need replacing. it may not be that bad of a repair $$.

SOURCE: I was driving to work last night, I could smell

This is a good case for warranty repair. Often a noncovered part takes out a covered one and at least something is fixed free. Contact your salesperson first. Your car has been made for years and they know what is normal and not normal for it. It has been least than 11 months despite being over 12000 miles.

SOURCE: Very little (almost nonexistent) rear brakes.

What happens when you try to bleed the rear brakes? If nothing comes out, trace each line back toward the proportioning valve--something would be blocking flow of fluid. Disconnect each line at the forward end and see if fluid comes out of the valve openings. You will need a scan tool to complete the bleeding process with ABS. Suggest buying a Chilton's manual for this truck because of the complexity of the ABS system.

I have a 2007 Mercedes Benz it's an automatic transmission burning smell and won't acknowledge any of the gears?

Hi,

if you continuously have to add coolant, then that means your system has a leak and the scent your smelling might be that of coolant leaking on the ground and evaporating.

If gears are not changing, then you might need to get related levers analyzed for damage.

Thank you.

ENGINE SMEELS HOT AFTER DRIVING ANY DISTANCE.

Hi Dianne, sorry, but I have to ask: after the oil change, are you sure the oil was re-filled? Maybe some got spilled on the exhaust manifold and needs to burn off (any smoke?) Is there coolant visible in the overflow tank? If the coolant is low, perhaps there is a leak in a hose to and from the radiator. "Hot smell" can also be rubber burning, i.e. drive belts, clutch pressure plate. Hard for me to tell w/o being there-hope this helps!

Engine died burning smell

If the smell is like burning oil or really hot coolant. you may have killed the motor. If it smells like burning plastic ,look for shorthing wires around the exhaust manifold battery, alternator or place that a wire could be burnt. If a rubber smell check for belt failure.

My car is running hot and smells like rubber burning

The rubber smell is coming from all of your hoses and burning coolant. I would replace the thermostat, check the water pump, and the radiator for leaks.

Engine smells like rubber burning and temperature gauge at normal temperature. Water/coolant leaking out of reservoir and needs to be filled ever 2 days. Oil level is normal, but when it's hot outside the...

Generally that smell is caused by an oil leak that is getting on either the exhaust pipe or manifold (doesn't take much to smell). As far as bottle getting low, I've got a 93 that never stays full but only needs coolant in the radiator about once every two months. Been like that for two or three years and has never overheated. I'm sure there is a small leak somewhere, but I'm not driving myself crazy looking for it. Check all hose connections, and look on the ground after being parked overnight...If it's leaking, something will show up. But if the radiator is staying full, just check it when checking oil level.

Smells like rubber is burning after I turn off my engine.

It sounds like your heater core is leaking. Check to see if you are losing coolant, are smell like antifreeze???? With 190,000-miles this could be what your smelling??? Just a though???

Heat gauge shows hot , have to add antifreeze although no leak

Very common fault is head gaskets.  causing coolant consumption and bubbles in radiator.  Run vehicle, have a friend accelerate once or twice hard, while you smell exhaust for sweet smell of burning coolant.
