Jeep RDS CD Problem

My Jeep Grand Cherokee has a RDS radio with 6-disk CD changer has stopped working. The radio works fine but the 6-disk changer does not opperate. When I press the "Mode" button to select the 6-disk changer it does not respond. Every time I open the car door I can hear the CD changer tring to changes CDs. This stops after it tries once.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get my CD changer working again and get the disks out that I have in the changer?

Did you change the battery ? If so try disonnecting and reconnecting the CD changer.

2000 jeep grand cherokee limited 10 disk cd changer says ''err''

The in-trunk units have a tendancy to go bad. you can take the cover plastic interior cover off to access the CD changer, un bolt the changer, and visualy inspect the two rollers for debris, or missing /broken gears that move the rollers to take the CD from the CD cartrage to the player. if that looks fine, chances are that the laser went bad (common in rear mount units) and you can order a new one from Jeep, or you can remove it and update the in-dash head to an aftermarket of your choice (& yes you steering wheel controls will still work). you could also fit a more modern MP3 unit where the Changer was.

2001 grand cherokee disk changer

Does it still say disk error if you change disks?
If so, first guess would be that either a disk is inserted upside down in it's slot or the disk is too scratched up for the player to read.
But if it was playing that disk when you shut the engine off and said disk error when you cranked up again, it could be a fault in the player.
Sometimes CD player "eyes" can get dirty too. I don't know if this is your fix, but I hope it helps a little.

Mech Comm Error

sounds like they may have forgotten to take out transit plugs from radio which holds cd mechanism in place when shipping unless you got a new radio thats a dud? but that may also mean dealer didnt check operation of new unit after replacement if replaced which is what usually needs to be done when this error message comes up

Adding a radio w/ remote changer to a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

in most cases the wiring is already there, it is cheaper for the manufacturer to use one harness than many different ones, I know this is true on GM and Ford, should be the same with Chrysler products as well.
