I recently acquired a 86 prelude si 2.0. it starts, runs about 10-15 minutes, then dies. it acts like it lost fire, not ran out of gas. it will not restart for an hour or so, and then only runs for a minute. the last time it died, the pgm fi light in the dash came on just before it quit. i hve checked the main relay immediatly after it died and it checked good. the fuel pump also starts every time i try to restart. also, where and how do i find the codes and where can i find what they mean?
The temp sensor can be checked by allowing the car to idle for a long period of time and if your car dies before your fan turns on it is your temp sensor, this test can takes several hours tho so be thurough.
Recheck the main relay and test for resistance, there is a really nice diagram i found for it on google images which i do not still have but mine just went out and ive tested it and found that it in fact is toast.
My problem is i dont have the money to next paycheck so i have seen the symptoms from this relay, if your main relay is bad ur car may start and run and drive fine like mine does but as soon as one of the magnets inside for the tesla coils does not heat up because of the wire the actuator doesnt connect to he ecm or your fuel pump anymore. one way to test this is by going and buying the main relay which can be classified as the ECM relay, main relay, or fuel pump relay depending on your local auto parts store. When your car preceeds to not want to start unplug the mounted relay and plug in your new one and if the car does not start then your relay is fine but if it does its the relay.
Next on the list it cannot be the alternator for the fact that if you drained the battery from it not being recharged once the car dies the first time it will never start again without a jump or a charge.

Hi, i just ran into the same problem, every time my honda warmed up it died and didnt start for a while, i found that my coolant temp sensor was bad and once i replaced it, it ran like a champ and didnt die. I hope this helps.
Hey sounds to me like it's the alternator see when the alternator is not working properly the main source of direct energy comes from the battery and when that runs out it makes your car die . then it might turn on again but it does not last. u shuld have you alternator checked to make sure if not ask me again..
if it was the alternator the battery would always get drained and the car wouldnt start or even turn over. I had the same problem and it turned out to be a bad coolant temp. sensor that caused my car to die when it got warmed up and didnt start till it cooled down.
it wouldn't be the alternator because if it wasn't working the battery would be drained and not turn over the engine very fast or at all. I had the same problem, and it turned out to be a bad coolant temp. sensor that caused the engine to die and not start until it cooled down.

to find the codes look under the drivers side rear seat ashtray, turn the key on and count the blinks looking through the window. also might be under the drivers seat at the rear. go from here.
