95 chevy blazer has dash lights intensity varying while driving

On the kick board on the passengers side take the kick board off and there is a metal box with two nuts , take the nuts off unplug the box get a can of electronic cleaner spray at any auto shop. Spray the contacts on the box and spray the plug, let dry a few minutes and plug it in before you bolt it up start the Blazer and push the 2wd button it should light up. In my 2000 blazer I have to shut the motor off turn the key forward until the dash lights turn on
to get it out of 4wd . If that doesn't work go to www.youtube.com/watch and type in your problem click go and there is videos you can watch, that is what I do when something goes wrong with my Blazer, Also there is a Transfer Case Vacuum Switch that is probably bad it is hard to get to it is on top of the transmission it has three vacuum hoses one vacuum nose for 2wd 4wd and4wd low range. just a couple things you can check that usually fix this type of problem, I think the whining you hear is being in transfer case the book says this vehicle is not intender to operate at high speeds in 4wd.

As I recall the 96 blazer had electronic shifting for 2wd to 4wd. There should be a small panel on the drivers dash buttons for 2wd, 4wd lo and 4wd hi.

Simply press the desired button while stationary and if the system is functioning properly then it will shift and the light for the engaged type of drive will be lighted. Generally you would like to be in 2wd for this vehicle.

there is a module on transfer case above front drive shaft this module is bad but there are two styles so you will need the part number off of yours

try putting in nuetral and then shift into high gear . if still does not work sounds like the 4x4 acctuator is bad

switch, 4x4 motor, 4x4 module can cause the lamp to come on need the code most parts stores will tell you code with out charging a dime

Replace the Ignition Switch, the electric part, not the lock cylinder.

the square box that all 3 lights are held in by can be taken out, just pry it on the top or bottom with a flat head screw driver, once you get it out you should see the wires that connect to the buttons,there are four tabs, 2 on each side, that you can just push in and the back panel should come off, it will look like a circuit board. twist the light bulb left or right and you should see how it comes out, just replace the bulb, and put back in and twist. should only have to twist 1/4 of a turn. snap everything back in place and it should be working. hope this helps.

Ask the dealer if there is an updated 4WD front axle solinoid. They are very easy to replace.
