Vapor lock I travel 100 miles one way once every week or so. Average speed 67 miles on divided highway. Last month after traveling approx. 90 miles, my 1999 Subaru Forester (150,000 miles) started losing speed, then accelerating again, then losing...etc. it did this twice, with about a quarter mile of normal speed in between. I pulled over and turned off the car, thinking that I had let my gas level get too low and I was running out. It was 97 degrees outside and I was running the AC. I had it towed to my regular service station and they couldn't find anything wrong, plus I was not out of gas, but was very low. Since then I have been using the car only for small in town trips. Then yesterday I got on the highway again and after about 50 miles of traveling about 67mph, with AC on (86 degrees outside), suddenly it started acting up again. Not as dramatically, but it seemed that if I tried to accelerate over 60, the engine sounded very rough. I slowed down and took the slower roads home, because after a while, after I was stopped at a light, my car took forever to come up to even 40 mph. ( Sorry that this is taking forever). I stayed behind a large truck because his gear shifting was about as slow as my acceleration abilities, and after about 15 miles of stop and go driving my car went back to feeling normal and I went the rest of the way home with no problems. This morning I took it to a local station and he checked my fluids and put it on the computer and everything was fine. My husband mentioned vapor lock. Any ideas? I have to drive that same route tomorrow so my husband is going to follow me. Anything I should do differently?

Ask your local technician to set up a fuel gauge pressure monitor so you can track it while your driving. Ask him what the normal range is so you will know when it falls below. Document it and let your Tech know. It sounds like your fuel pump is loosing Pressure.

Drop in to an Autozone, or Pep Boys, or similar big parts store & they will usually scan for codes free. This will hopefully eliminate all the guess work, or at least point everyone in right direction for better diagnosis. If not obvious from codes what the problem is, get back to us and we'll help you out.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the great suggestion . I'll have Autozone read the codes on Monday. Thanks again!"

What is the average distance i can travel with 40l?

Hi Kevin:
That all depends on how many litres of fuel your vehicle consumes and will vary depending on driving conditions, speed, technique, engine condition, and goodness knows what else.

Let's guess and say you're using 10 litres per 100 km.
40 divided by 10 equals 4
4 times 100 equals 400km

What you will need to do is use your rate of fuel consumption with this calculation.

How much money in gas will i spend in a 224 mile trip, at $2.29 a gallon?

Depends on miles per gallon of vehicle. Average mpg of say 15 mpg would take 15 gallons to travel 225 miles.(15x15=225). At $2.29 per gallon @15 gallons=$34.35. So figure out mpg of your vehicle and do the math.

How long does it take for a car at average speed to travel 44 miles in louisville ms

the formula for this is time= speed in mph divided by the distance
example 100 mph divided by 100 miles =1hour
there is no average speed as it will be set by speed restrictions so if the 100 miles was all 50 mph speed zone it would take 2 hours.

I have a 2001 isuzu rodeo and my gas needle is broke, how much would it usually cost to get fixed, how many highway miles per gallon and city miles per gallon please?

You would need to check with a local garage for repair prices.
To find your average mileage, fill up the tank, write down the mileage, then do it again at around 200 miles. Divide the mileage traveled by the number of gallons used. I would recommend filling up after you have used about 8 or 9 gallons to prevent running out of gas. You can't go by the federal mpg numbers because everybody drives differently.

How many miles per gallon does a 1990 Honda Accord LX get?

The figures quoted for a new vehicle are pretty irrelivant because its what the car does with YOUR driving style that counts. So do this; fill the tank up so it won't hold another drop. Then take it for a long drive, combining highway and town driving (aim for about 100 miles) then fill the tank again. Then work out how much fuel you put in in gallons and divide that figure by the miles you covered.
E.g. 4 gallons of fuel used to travel 100 miles
4 / 100 = 25mpg.
When you refill the tank again drive again just to lower the level in the tank cos fuel expands when its warm and escapes out through the the breather hose which can be dangerous. But this method will tell you what mpg the car does when YOU are driving. The basic rules are, change gear early and dont work the engine hard. And on a highway (motorway? - Im from the UK) keep your speed to 56mph. Thats the optimum cruising speed manufacturers quote for ecconomy.
Hope this helps and happy driving

they could b referring to the vehicle speed sensor, which senses vehicle speed for input to ur ecm and not to ur speedometer. u most likely have 2 sensors with almost same name. their located on ur trans, an some sense input shaft speed an the others sense output shaft speed..... good luck hope this clarifies it for u a little bit

What is the o/d button on top of automatic gear stick for please

Over Drive..... Generally speaking, overdrive (OD) is the highest gear in the transmission. Overdrive allows the engine to operate at a lower rpm for a given road speed. This allows the vehicle to achieve better fuel efficiency, and often quieter operation on the highway. When it is switched on, an automatic transmission can shift into overdrive mode after a certain speed is reached (usually 70+ km/h [43+ mph] depending on the load). When it is off, the automatic transmission shifting is limited to the lower gears. For an automatic transmission, it is almost always best to select overdrive and allow the transmission to control engagement of the overdrive. (It may be necessary to switch it off if the vehicle is being operated in a mountainous area or when towing a trailer.) With a manual transmission, overdrive should usually be selected when the average speed is above 70 km/h (approx. 43 mph).

Create an equation to calculate a change in gear size on a jeep.

If the gears have been INCREASED the speed etc will be less.
Say it's increased by 18%.In theory,at 100mph real speed, the speedo will read 18%less.i.e. 82mph.
If the speedo is driven off the g/box,all this has to be taken into account.
If the speedo is driven off the wheels(and the wheels have not changed at all)All that will happen is the engine revs will have decreased by 18%.
So,To work out the difference.Divide the distance travelled by 100 and then multiply the answer by 82.(82 is the remaining % of the original)
So if 150 miles is divided by 100=1.5
1.5 is multiplied by 82=123 miles.
Hope this helps
