Im having problems when I put the car into drive it doesnt seem to start in 1st gear it seems to start in 2nd, this causes the car to accellerate very slowly until it reaches a suitable speed for 2nd gear. The fuse #8 under the glovebox was blown and has been replaced, once replaced the car ran fine. Unfortunately the fuse blew again and the problem persists, I am assuming the problem is caused by an electrical component malfunctioning. What does fuse #8 (powertrain fuse) control, what does it go into and how do I find out what is the problem electronic component?

It's not electronic, It's a hydraulic problem, you need to drive it with a pressure gauge on the line pressure port to see if the pump pressure is dropping to zero at stop signs.

There is a pressure sol. in the transmission that is bad . This is a common problem that requires removal of the side transmission cover. The transmission does not need to be rebuilt! Talk to a gm dealer. I have sold over a hundred of these pressure sol. and the side cover gaskets to a real gm transmission mechanic that have fixed this problem. GM parts over 20 years.

Okay well here is your most likely problem, the nuetral safety switch it's located on the transaxle(transmission where the shift linkage comes in)you can test this to make sure its working but it will require conituity tester,a parts store might also test it for free, this is a $100+ dollar switch,so if needs to be replaced check with the local salvage yards to see if you can get one used.
