You likely have a broken wiring harness at the brake light switch connector under the dash above the brake pedal. You can buy a replacement stub harness from Ford parts.

Look for a short on the LG/R wire coming out of the BOO (brake on/off) switch.

SOURCE: 2002 ford taurus won't start

Sounds like your not getting any fuel..Listen for the fuel pump,by removing gas cap and put your ear up to it..cycle the key without starting it and listen for the pump..sometimes you can beat on the bottom of the tank and it will jarr the pump and it will start running again..Not a fix but a conformation

Ford Taurus X rear Brake lights won't turn off

There is a brake switch located at the upper portion of the pedal, these switches can come loose and fall towards the driver, when they do the brake lights will come on and remain on. The switch is activated when the pressure is released from the end of the plunger

Can't get can outof park

check that your brake pedal sensor is clicking when you hit the pedal if its not than its either bad or just stuck. if you have a automatic transmission and you hit the brake pedal you should hear a click in the shifter to disengage park if you dont you need a new switch

How do I disengage a locked parking brake on a 2001 Ford Taurus wagon? I left the car sitting with the parking brake engaged for a long period of time and now it won't disengage.

Try putting the car in reverse and forward back and forth..Give just a little acceleration,,while doing this..Sometimes this will let it break free

1994 ford taurus, the gear will not move out of park.

Check your brake light fuse and make sure the brake lights are working If they are you need the shift solenoid that engages when the car is in park and the brake is pushed or the park switch on the transmission.

I have a1993 Fird Taurus wagon. The brake lights

Check all fuses with a test light with key on.
This is the best way to do it on Fords.
Change all blown fuses.
Are the brake light BULBS OK?
This is the more common cause of.....no brake lights.
....and don't forget the brake light switch if all this fails.

1993 Ford Taurus

The comment by Bunnydawg could be close to a solution. It sounds like a defective, bent or out of adjustment brake light switch. Up high on the brake pedal there is a tab that acuates a switch to turn the brake lights on and this button also allows you to shift out of park. If its only out of adjustment most styles are a threaded barrel with a set and lock nut. Simply loosen the lock nut and thread the cylinder closer to the pedal and reset the lock nut.
