I agree with WaltGe. Take it to a reputable shop. They know where to drill the right holes inside the transmission so that it will be properly lubricated. This deficiency is the reason that these trannys were not dependable in the first place.

You may want to see about a used transmission for your Ford. Rebuilding a transmission, unless you've done this before, takes a lot more than a DVD to master. Again, this is not to insult anyones mechanical inclination, but I've been working on cars for nearly 30 years and would not attempt this. Besides, many of the parts are not available to the general public and there are many tools you will have to buy that are specific to that transmission that are expensive. Even if you manage to get this back together, there are no guarantees that it will work.
I would be leery about doing this for a fifteen year old vehicle in the first place, but if I were trying to repair it, a used trans would be the best way to go. Hope this helps.

Will a tranny out of 2000 Explorer work in a 92 Explorer. If not is there any thing i can change or do to make it work ? ...

No they will not interchange,The 92 has a hydralic transmission and the 00 has a fully electronic transmission. You would need the engine, computer, wiring harness, transmission and god knows what else to even try to make it work.Better off just rebuilding the trans in the 92(A4LD Trans) or buying a working 00 explorer and driving it.You should be able to get th 92 transmission rebuilt for about 1500 give or take.Let me know if you need me to help you locate a shop in your area through ATRA or ATSG.Good luck!

Does the 3.0l transmission fit on the 4.0l engine

Hiya,

There are 5 automatic transmissions used in the Ford Ranger, Explorer and Mountaineer. They may be identified by checking the transmission code on the Safety Standard Certification Label attached to the driver's side door post, in the space marked Trans. The transmissions can also be identified by a tag attached to the lower left hand extension attaching bolt. The transmission codes are as follows:
  • 1991–94 code T is for the A4LD transmission
  • 1995–99 code T is for the 4R44E (2.3L, 2.5L & 3.0L) or 4R55E (4.0L) transmission
  • 1996–99 code U is for the 4R70W (5.0L) transmission
  • 1997–99 code D is for the 5R55E (5-speed automatic) transmission
So, what you need to do now is...establish from a FORD workshop, whether both the A4LD and 4R55E transmissions share the same components and mounting dimensions.

Cheers,

Scott

the transmission is loseing internal fluid pressure, its time for a rebuilt transmission. The A4ld that your explorer has is prone to trouble in this area. A good rebuilt transmission may cost at least $1700 dollars.
