Sounds like the vacuum lines are either pinched or the vacuum pump is shot. try getting a mechanic look at the lines on and around your transfer case... also try checking the fuses for the 4wd selector. let me know how it goes

Under the battery tray is the vacuum actuator, disconnect the vacuum line and plug. With no vacuum pulling on the actuator the 4wd will disengage. The problem is "why is there vacuum to the acuator when there is no call for 4wd" Is it the module in the kick panel or something down the line

I have a 1998 chevy k2500 pickup with a 5.7L V8. The problem i am having is with the 4wd. it has a 3 button electronic shift selector. when pressing the 4wd low button it will shift the motor and the front...

First, you do not need 4 low unless you're stuck out in the bush somewhere. Secondly, when you shift from 2 high to 4 high, it goes in immediately. To access 4 low, the tranny shifter must first be put into neutral, wait five seconds, then shift into 4 low. To shift out of 4 low back to 4 high, you must shift into neutral for 5 seconds again. They both flash at the same time because you have not shifted into neutral gear with the transmission.

How do you shift to 4wd 99 wrangler

You can shift on the fly...as you are moving....into 4WD at speeds up to 40 MPH but simply grabing the 4WD selector and moving into the 4WD high gear. Low gear selection should be done at a stand still, with transmission in neutral position before proceeding in fwd. The low position is a "granny gear" that is for extreme situations where high 4WD will not suffice or get you out of a stuck situation.

My Jimmy won't shift into 4WD. Is it a problem with the switch?

It could be the switch, but most likely its the transfer case encoder motor. That is a common problem with 4 x 4s' with the push button selectors.

I own a 1995 GMC Jimmy and I dont know if my 4wd works or not the light does not turn on when i push the button i do i know if it works or not? does it need to be in park or neutral to ingage?

You can shift into and out of 4wd hi in any gear even when vehicle is moving. You must stop and put in neutral to shift into or out of 4wd low.
To see if it is working, go to a dirt field or on the beach if one is available. Put truck in four wheel drive, turn steering wheel all the way one way or the other and stick you head out the driver window and look at the front tire and "PUNCH IT". If the four wheel drive is working you will see the front tire spin. Hope this helps.

2001 jimmy stuck in 4wd low

Usually when a truck gets stuck in 4 low you need to put it in reverse, start backing up very slowly, put it in neutral (or push in the clutch on manual trans models) and stop the truck with the brakes. this will release the load on the gearing which should allow you to shift out of 4 low.

Having trubble ingageing the 4wd chevy s10 1988

It should shift into 4 high in any gear. 4 low you have to be in neutral. If the button doesnt push in, it could very well be the button.
