Could be a long list of things including dirty injectors or a leaking EGR valve.
The coil could be weak or the distributor cap and rotor may be shorting to ground. Has the fuel filter been replaced ?
You'll have to go down the list and try to eliminate components to narrow down your options.
Does it happen all the time, only when you are accelerating, etc.

SOURCE: Engine shutter and lack of power

You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. Check for broken or cracked hoses and/or plastic pieces they connect to. Pay special attention to suction pump, part# 058 133 753 B. Google it.

Have a compression test done ,and look for a vacuum leak near the cylinder, like a vacuum hose or intake gasket. If the compression test shows a fluctuation between the 3 and 4 cylinder, then the head gasket would need to be replaced.

Assuming none of the wires are crossed, AND you replaced the cap rotor wires with quality replacements (meaning AC Delco) then you may have a bad coil. Remove coil from dist cap if HEI and look for any signs of arcing such as blackened areas.

check that the egr valve is not stuck open remove it and cover the hole on the intake side and see if it goes away or with engine running remove the vac line from the valve and install a short length of hose and suck on the hose to draw a vac on the valve it only takes 3-5 inches of vac to open it the engine should stall or run even worse if it is not stuck and if it was stuck open you didnt change anything

I changed out spark plug wires last week 1990 Ford f150 Lariat. This week it sounds like a hard knocking from engine after driving 10 to 20 miles. Is my timing off by just changing the spark plug wires?

Knock at low rpm and high rpm" It may be oil pump , After oil heats up it gets thinner and and less lubracated. I would change the oil and add some oil stabalizer, shouls help, if not probaly a rod.

check the connection of all of the spark plug wires to the plugs, you may have put a wrong one on, when cleaning the gas tank as well it can dislodge a lot of dirt, cleaning injectors and a new fuel filter could solve the issue as well

it is very important to keep the engine tuned up, and yes an engine miss fire could damage the catalytic converter. the 1990 does not have a code for a miss fire it is probley just a bad spark plug or spark plug wire, and remember when it comes to spark plug wires you get what you pay for.....have fun

1990 Nissan Stanza 2.4 Liter Engine miss. This is a used car we just bought, has 112,000 miles on it and it only happens when I put the transmission in drive or reverse. It does not happen when in park....

could just need a tune up,you could also pull of the distributor cap and look for oil intrusion, if there is you will need to replace the distributor

This is an idea not a for sure. Bad or worn valves can cause what you describe. Had something similar happen to an 2004 Toyota. Due to bad lubrication, crazy huh?

Did you replace the wires? if not you may have broken a couple of wires. Not sure what fire wire is unless you mean the spark plug wires. Also did it do this before you replaced the plugs? need to know.

Truck running funny sometimes and other times running perfect.

It sounds like you really take care of your truck,But being that it is a 1990 with the mileage you stated,The only thing that comes to mind about your problem,
Is the rubber "O" rings that seal the injectors,They are probably not soft anymore and that might be where your smell is coming from.this could also be your light miss or chug too,But if you do check them for hardness, really check the injectors over before you reinstall them, check the screen on the bottom to see if any rust particles are trapped in there from the fuel tank and lines.

Missing

Sounds like a load miss. Chk plug wires for deterioration and or cross firing. Wires should not cross over each other. Worn plugs load wires causing increase spark out put increasing cross firing potential
