Cannot shift gears
REPLACEMENT OF CABLE ASSY ONLY OPTION UNLESS PROBLEM IS INTERNAL TO TRANS??
SOURCE: 1998 chevy lumina, shifter on steering column,won't shift
Either the pin that connects rod to tranny is broken off, or there is internal transmission problems.

The shifter works off a shift cable which is connected to the transmission. The connection of this cable to the transmission is on the drivers side looking straight up were you can see it. The other end connects to the inner part of the shifting mechanisum where you shift
You can only get a replacement at any General Motos dealerships parts department

Had neighbor look at this same problem. Turned out the shifter cable linkage near the top of transmission had popped off. They popped it back on and works but a bushing in the clip probably needs replaced. The neighbor rewched over engined top between firewall and engine and popped it back on.
Works fine but does needs a clip/bushing part and auto parts store has to get from Chevy

try checking the tranny fluid, too little and the car wont move even if you shift into gear

Trying to reinstall shift cable for 2000 chev venture,can't get the truck to start now? need to know if need to remove slack from top cable? does ignition switch need to be removed?
also the indicator lights is not coming on?
