If this is a diesel engine you probably have an air lock in the fuel system. It will need "bleeding" before it will start. If you have already tried bleeding the fuel system there may be an air lock in the injectors. If it still doesn't start I suggest you carry out a compression check because diesel engines need to be in good condition to start easily, especially in cold weather If it is a petrol engine, there could be problems with engine timing or ignition problems.
Old post but , this answer covers all , of this type symptoms. new head, ran for 30 minutes so does it crank ? ok? if not dont crank, it can start. so crank is next. (first) backfiring (true to the air cleaner) usually means TIMING IS way off and sure engines can start with timing way off and then stall and flood out. nothing new there. you did not time the engine correctly.
get the FSM on engine. read the pages. or go to alldata.com and read that. for others searching using google, my lil. contribution;
If the engine won't crank with compression in the cylinders, either the head gasket has blown or something else major has happened. You will have to get it towed to a shop. If it cranks normally but won't start, you have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem. Did the temp gauge show it was overheating before it died ?
you said it cranks then you said it wont turn over if it wont turn over you might have get the engine to hot and seized the engine please spesifiy if the engine turns over or not
Hello robtui: My name is Roger and I will help with your problem. The engine cranks over and does not start? Collant is belched out of the radiator? Problem is a warped head(s).Blown head gasket or cracked head. Remove the spark plugs fill the coolant system and you should see coolant fill and run out a spark plug hole. The engine should of had a miss before this happend. You could also do a compression test instead of filling the radiator and looking for coolant to run out. Either way you will find a cylinder compression leaking to the coolant passage. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger
How do you set the timing?
