It is either a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Depending on which motor your civic has, this could be a tricky replacement, either way, you have to remove the head off of the motor, and then take the head to have it pressure checked to see if there is a crack in it. Nine times out of ten though, you can see a crack in the head with your eye, but you have to have the right "eye" to be able to see the crack.

Thermostatic switch of your car can be found screwed on your intake manifold, it's a bolt type sensor with wire terminals.

My gauge on my civic reads HOT but the car is fine. no smoke, no stalling, as if nothing is wrong... drove it 50miles today on "HOT" read but nothing wrong. i just changed the temp sensor and the...

Hondas are very tough cars and will run hot right up until a radiator hose ruptures. You need to make sure that there is not a problem.
When your Honda says it is hot, make sure the radiator fan is running. If not, it can be a bad fan or fan relay.
Next, turn on the heat full blast and make sure that you have allot of heat coming into the car. If not, even though your overflow tank has fluid in it, your radiator may be dry. This can happen if your radiator cap is bad. Check the fluid level in the radiator itself, but don't pull the cap until your car has cooled down at least an hour to reduce the risk of getting burned by steam.
If it stops reading HOT when you have full heat on it could be either the thermostat or a plugged radiator. Change the thermostat first since it is the cheapest fix.
