1992 Ford ranger when wet or very cold will not crank

Key it on and off 3 or 4 times. If it starts right up, the check ball is stuck, letting the fuel drain back to the tank. Like Tom said, fuel pump. If it were mine I would live with it till the pump started acting up.

With the engine at such low temp I suspect that the glow plugs in the head are not working. They are there to ignite the vaporised fuel in the cylinder and assist in starting. Have them checked out and replace if faulty

I have a '93 Ranger 4.0 4x4 and had the same problem before. Make sure the distributer isnt wet and make sure all connections are tight. I took mine through some mud, got the distributer wet, and it died and wouldnt start until it dried. Hope this helped!

There are many cold air intakes available from the after market, also look for a radiator for the 1992 Ranger with an extra core or two rather than adapting from another car.

Check for spark. No spark can be from the coil, igntion module, crank sensor. Have the codes check, this will at least point you in the right direction.

have you tried a block heater? I have 95 f150 and about 3 years ago had to install it

Is the blower blowing? if not could be a blown fuse or bad blower. If the blower is working make sure your coolant level is full, If both of theese things check out , you may have a vacume line loose somewhere that controls the duct witch controls it to change to defrost ,vent or hot to cold.

possibly distributor cap getting wet. Try this. When it's not starting, remove distributor cap and dry inside and outside with hair dryer on warm setting. See if it starts then. If yes, replace cap and rotor and make sure plug wires are clean.
If it still doesn't start, you may be getting mositure in a wire connector that operates spark to plugs.

Are you getting spark at plugs when it own't start?
Check by getting a spark plug and plugging a spark plug wire into it and grounding the side of the plug. crank engine and watch for spark at gap.

First thing you need to check is the coolant temperature switch which is located in the head or inlet manifold area. Basically it measures the temperature of the coolant and tells the ECU to increase fuel for cold starts.
