Squeaking noise when driving 2007 saturn - Ooutlook Saturn Cars & Trucks

well it can still be anything, locating a steering/suspension noise can be hard. Based on what you typed, what first comes to mind is the steering pump is worn out. If it is more of a low whining sound instead of squeaking, its probably the steering pump.

to check if belt spray water on the belt and if the squeak goes then adjust /replace the belt. When the belt dries out the noise will be back unless you do something to fix it.

Check to see if the brake pads are low. They might be low enough and the squealers may be touching. Which will make a squeaking noise. If they are not low you may have metallic brake pads that will also make a squeaking noise. If this is the case you can try disc brake quiet. This is a spray that you can get at most auto part stores.

If it is not your brakes, or your rear shoes, being so they have been replaced, you may have a wheel bearing bad in the rear, or you may have a caliper that is not releasing pressure on the slides causing the brake to drag just a little. I think sense it is coming from the rear of the vehicle i am going to lean towards it being a wheel bearing. One more thing you can try, push the emergency or parking brake on half way when you hear the squeak not enough to lock up the brakes but enough so the brakes touch the drum. If the squeak stops then your parking brakes are you culprit!

There is a TSB for your complaint from Saturn: Here's the jist of it.

Condition: Some customers may comment on a squeak or squeal noise coming from the base of the steering column while turning vehicle.
Cause: The squeak or squeal noise may be caused by insufficient lubrication of the intermediate steering shaft-to rubberboot- contact area.

that sounds like the squeler fo the brakes and you might want to check to see if they need to be changed and/or have you had them changed yet?

is it wheel speed or engine speed you hear ?..turning both ways or only one?...how many miles on vehicle and have you rotated tires and had ((((brakes)))) inspected?
