Hood release won't open hood, can't open my hood

Normally, the cable snaps off from behind the cabin release lever. In that case you can pull the cable end with Locking Grips. If it has broken at the hood end, and they have a history of it, there are videos in the link to get in through the grill.

have someone push down on hood and try to open ---- reach behind the lever and disconnect cable use a vise grip to pull cable if cable is broken---- than behind grille is latch look through grill and will need a metal hook to grab cable and pull cable towards grille and pull through cut cable cover back and pull cable back

Heidi, No electric release. The latch is probably stuck. While you pull the interior hood release have an assistant push down and pull up repeatably/vigorously until hood releases from stuck position. Lube latch and cable before closing hood. i have the same problem on my Merc C200k coupe 2002 i have been told you have to go through the grill but i cant work out how to get the gill off with out opening the bonnet lol

I don't think there is a day that goes by in the shop where we don't get at least one vehicle that is doing this. Just use two people. One to pull the cable release and the other to slap the hood with their hand and tell it to cooperate. Usually, just a little "jarring" with the cable pulled will get it to pop up.

Just perform some checks please,

• try to pull the hood release lever with its cable tightly pulled towards you.
• that may tighten the loose cable so a release can happen
• then pull out the hood piece hard, so the lock would release.
• trimming is not a good idea, because it would be hard to set it back into the assembly.
• try this, good luck. vote it!!

While someone is pulling the thing inside the cars have someone outside the push down in the center front (where the latch is underneath) down. You may have to kind of push and release quickly. If the cable is still attached there it should release.

If it feels like the cable is attached when you pull the hood release try having someone push down on the front of the hood near the latch. Once the release is pulled out have the person relieve pressure from the hood once you let go of the release. This works for most stuck hood situations. If that doesn't work try having some one pull up on the hood while the release is pulled. This works when the spring has weakened. Once the hood is opened clean and lubricate the latch assembly to prevent further trouble.

try to pull the cable with pliers

Try getting another person to push down above the bonnet latch as you pull the lever.They may have to push it down a few times,A sudden quick push may do it.Hope this helps
